Summary
The multiplayer of the inboundCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is set to boast a massive range of weapons, carrying over the firearms of 2022’sModern Warfare 2alongside its own collection of fresh guns. This is a part of a thorough carry-over system between the two titles, and there may be room for even more weapons from older releases to be given a new lease of life.
WithCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3maintaining the weapons of the recentModern Warfare 2, it would be a nice touch to see some guns from the original 2009MW2appear in the title. There are some iconic weapons from the firstMW2that have been sorely missed by fans in theMWreboot, and their presence inMW3would be an even bigger boost to the intense hype surrounding the game.

Five Guns From 2009’s MW2 That Should Appear in Modern Warfare 3
It has been confirmed that the multiplayer ofModern Warfare 3is aiming to recapture the faster pace of past gameslike 2009’sMW2, with this being another reason why the title should look to older release for weapon inspiration. With this in mind, it would be great to see the iconic Ranger shotgun make a reappearance inMW3, with the sawn-off being one of the most recognizable guns inCoDhistory. The Ranger dominated the meta of the classicMW2for some time, and would be a welcome addition toMW3’s roster.
The M93 Raffica machine pistolis another classic weapon that would be perfect forMW3’s run-and-gun gameplay, with machine pistols being a defining category of gun in the 2009 release. Typified by its high rate of fire and unmistakable look, the Raffica would be a perfect nostalgic fit for players to fall back on inModern Warfare 3.
TheMWreboot has already maintained a lot of the firstMW2’s sniper rifle options under different names, with theIntervention being added to 2022’sMW2as the FJX Imperium. Despite that, the WA2000 sniper from the original game is nowhere to be found in the reboot. While not the most popular sniper, the WA2000 offers great mobility and a high rate of fire, and would work well with the unpredictable high-octane gameplay thatMW3is hoping to capture.
A more explosive twist toModern Warfare 3would see the Thumper grenade launcher fromMW2make a reappearance. The Thumper was an obscure but effective secondary weapon that held a lot of similarities with the China Lake oftheBlack Opsseries, with dedicated grenade launcher weapons losing their prominence in recentCall of Dutyentries. 2009’sMW2was controversially rife with grenade launcher usage, and the Thumper could be a fun but fair way to bring a taste of this back intoModern Warfare 3.
Finally,Modern Warfare 3seems like the perfect opportunity to officially add the MP5K back into the series. A compact submachine gun that was lethal at close range in 2009, it would be right at home inMW3and its pool of classicMW2maps. While it is possible tomake the MP5K inModern Warfare 2’s gunsmith, it is not an official weapon in the game, leaving fans yearning for a genuine replication of the classic weapon. While the weapon variety ofMW3is already set to be massive, it cannot hurt to add a few more guns from the originalMW2to appeal to an even greater catchment of fans.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3releases November 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
