Whilst there is no concrete confirmation behind all the rumors, it has already been enough to send fans into debates and discussions as to what they wish to see, and what changes they hope are made.

5Fast Time To Kill

One of the biggest issues in the recentModern Warfare 2title, is the very fast time-to-kill featured throughout leaving players with very little time to react. Despite it having some benefits in terms ofgameplay pacing as mentioned before, over the long period since its 2022 November release, players have come to find the game’s time-to-kill more of a hindrance than an advantage.

In light ofSledgehammer Gamestaking the project ofModern Warfare 3, and their previous release inVanguardfeaturing a similar fast time-to-kill, developers must adjust this to a fair and reasonable standard, and focus on giving players a little more time in identifying areas of fire and reacting in time without decreasing the time-to-kill too much finding a perfect balance.

4Battle Pass UI/Layout

Modern Warfare 2’s change away from the traditional battle pass layout and UI, left many unsatisfied and disappointed, to say the least. Regardless of the addition of players having the ability to select the path of their rewards with map sectors, the linear and simple battle pass layout present in all the previous titles is preferred. FromBlack Ops Cold War,Modern Warfare(2019), andVanguard, the visual quality of the rewards and the lineup at the bottom of the screen were far more appealing.

In light ofModern Warfare 3potentially on the way and the continuation of battle passes, this is an area that should be addressed to revert to what mostCall of Dutyfans are familiar with, or at least give players an option in terms of UI, whilst finding a way to include any benefits without it tampering with its accessibility.

3Big Maps With Small Lobbies

What appears to be a recurring problem with manyCall of Dutyentries mostly the recent ones, is the vast majority of maps are huge in their size and typically have a small number of players involved in lobbies often a 6v6. Aside from the ‘10v10 Moshpit’ modes and maps built for close combat encounters such as the classic ‘Shipment’, players are subjected to running around for a long while attempting to find enemies, only to be hit with a surprise by one hidden stationary ready to fire, or stumbling into another player around a corner.

While this could very well be a dominant component of the flow within gameplay pacing in terms of keeping players active all around the map, it spoils the amount of time that players actually spend engaging with each other in combat. IfModern Warfare 3really is greenlit, this should be a priority for developers to address, and ensure each map’s scale, matches the number of players present in matches.

2No Play Of The Game

Fans who are familiar with Treyarch’sBlack Ops Cold Warwill be aware that this was the last title for the Call of Duty franchise, that executed the ‘play of the game’ accurately. Whilst this is present in both Vanguard and Modern Warfare 2, iteither suffers from bugs that end up not displaying any highlights, or it only appears for certain modes and very rarely ever appears but instead showcases a lackluster ‘final kill’.

Some may feel that this is not much of an issue that needs to be fixed considering its short length at the end of matches, but these highlights can certainly be an extra incentive for players to perform at their highest capacity to then have this shown off to all players afterward. This is also very effective and useful for content creators or players who prefer to flick through a compilation of their best gunplay moments and also have this matched up with their recorded statistics in-game.

1Reliance On In-Game Store

SinceCall of Dutytitles have become more accustomed to in-game transactions than ever before, it has also seen an increased level of attention and reliance drawn towards it besides content that players can earn for free in-game. More notably withModern Warfare 2, a great deal of weapon skins, operator skins, and much more within the battle passes are watered-down versions of what is available for purchase in the game’s store, especially with operator bundles.

Given the price of the game itself, fans feel as though it is unfair for there to be a heavy focus on in-game purchases especially when someinclude pay-to-win items. Regardless of which Call of Duty game is next in line for release, developers need to ensure that content earned in-game is done to an acceptable standard, which will help to maintain a good player count and improve the overall user experience.
