Driver explains the family’s complicated dynamic, as each kid seems to be from a different marriage, and both Gerwig and Driver have been married and divorced four times. Despite the unconventional family unit, they seem happy as they go about their lives until an oil tanker crashes into a train, causing a toxic chemical to spew into the air. The family gathers around the TV, watching the news as Driver suggests they watch a sitcom “or something.”

The trailer forWhite Noisecontinues as Driver tries to reassure his family that everything will be okay. However, he’s abruptly interrupted by an evacuation order, so they pack up the kids and hit the road only to immediately run into a massive traffic jam as everyone attempts to evacuate at the same time. Things only get crazier as the family tries to navigate this disaster, witnessing cars flip over one another as people scramble to get out of town. They end up floating downstream in their station wagon as one of the kids ponders, “Do sheep have eyelashes?” Driver confides in a friend, played byactor Don Cheadle, who gives him some bleak advice, saying, “there are two types of people in this world: killers and diers.”
