During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct showcase, Nintendo revealed a new trailer for their upcoming Switch strategy game,Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp. The remake of the first two games in the long-running Advance Wars series,Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Campwill present these two classic games in a new style with new animations.
TheAdvance Warsseries is a sister series to the FamicomWarsseries, which started all the way back in 1988. The firstAdvance Warsgame released in 2001 on the Game Boy Advance. Its sequel,Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, released two years later. The series has been dormant for over ten years, as the last game to be released in the entireWarsseries wasAdvance Wars: Days of Ruinin 2008 for the Nintendo DS.Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Campwas announcedlast year during a Nintendo Direct at E3.

In this new trailer, Nintendo revealed some of the new features this game will have after itpreviously delayedAdvance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Campout of its initial December 2021 release date. Nintendo and WayForward, who are developing the game, have added in some quality of life features like fast-forward and resetting turns. Nintendo also confirmed that some features are returning from the original game like local multiplayer, the map editor, and the War Room. However, the biggest new feature of the game is voice acting, which will be a first for the series.
WayForward is famous for developing theShantaeseries, and their penchant for doing 2D sprite work was likely a reason Nintendo went to it for the development of this game. The regular developer for theAdvance Warsseries, Intelligent Systems, is likely busy working onFire Emblemgiven how popular the series is.
Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Campis likely a big relief for fans who have been wondering what would happen to the series after Intelligent Systems announced that sales ofAdvance Wars: Days of Ruinwere much lower than expected.AfterFire Emblem: AwakeningmadeFire Emblempopular, the developer has been working on that series ever since, only taking a couple of breaks to crank out a couple ofPaper Mariogames.
A rumor came out late last year that while the game would be delayed into 2022, Nintendo had a new release date already set.Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Campwould be pushed backto Aug 09, 2025 according to its listing on the eShop. That date was reconfirmed yesterday. Fans can look forward toAdvance Wars' return soon.
