Summary

AnAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayer has highlighted their island themed around the original GameCube game. ManyAnimal Crossinggames have been released since the GameCube version, but someAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfans still have nostalgia for the original.

Despite many game design improvementstheAnimal Crossingserieshas made over the years, the initial game still has aspects that haven’t been replicated. This includes grumpy villagers, playable NES games, and a dump that could accumulate items. Other things that were in the first game that aren’t inNew Horizonsare the police station, post office, and multiple Nook’s Cranny upgrades. Because some of these are only available in the original game, players still return to it occasionally. OneAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfan has even dedicated their island to mimicking the aesthetic of the GameCube title.

Reddit user ButIDigress79 recently shared a video showing off aNew Horizonsisland inspired by the original GameCube game. The clip begins with the player standing outside their house with a Gyroid pattern and Resetti Model item. Like the first game, there are four similar houses connected by a stone path, with a sign in the middle reflecting the bulletin board. The player walks north to show a train station with a snowman outside and a standee of Porter. West of the station is the dump and a pattern on the ground that are nearly identical to how they are in the GameCube game. The video then jumps to a pier in the island’s lake that would look familiar inthe firstAnimal Crossing.

While a portrait of C.J. is located by the lake, the fishing NPC in the GameCube game was Chip. Like Porter, Tortimer is represented by a standee, and he’s fittingly located by a well, meant to reflect the Wishing Well. There are nearby leaf pile patterns that differ significantly from the modern item of the same name. As in the first game, theNew HorizonsMuseumis located on the bottom half of the map. The only villager that’s featured in the video is Bob, which may be fitting given that the character is in the GameCube game. Some key differences between the GameCube game and this island are Nook’s Cranny, house designs, and balls that can’t be pushed.

Community Stretch with Various Animal Crossing Villagers

Given how accurate this GameCube-inspired island is, the gamer has effectively usedAnimal Crossing: New Horizons' ample customization options. Although ButIDigress79’s video shows where the Museum and Nook’s Cranny are, the police station and post office aren’t seen. It’s currently unclear if they’re recreated in different parts of the island or if the Reddit user has left them out.
