Things can change pretty rapidly in behind the scenes game development, and for games that constantly update, likeApex Legends, this is doubly true. Already itseems that a mobileApex Legendsport is coming, but other developments have gone on the back burner.
For the most part,Apex Legendshas proven successful as a long-term battle royale. Its characters' unique powers provide gameplay variations not seen in other games of the genre. On top of that, its extension ofTitanfall’s universe has been well received by players. In fact, when players got the chance to dive deeper into the game’s lore in Season 5, it went over very well. Unfortunately, it looks like this dive may have been a unique experience.

Something entirely new came toApex Legendswith Season 5: PvE. The story-driven missions of the Broken Ghost quest saw Loba leading other legends in a joint effort to recover and piece together an artifact. It was a character exploration that had not been done before, and players liked it. When asequel was teased for Season 6, many fans got excited. Sadly, according to Tom Casiello, the writer of that sequel, it has been scrapped. It looks like the Broken Ghost storyline will not continue, at least in-game.
There are a few possible reasons behind this. Casiello’s tweet hints that some behind the scenes upheaval completely negated the story. Perhaps future plans caused the story ofApex Legendsto feature Loba and the Broken Ghost less prominently. This makes sense becayseApex Legendsmust constantly put its new elements front and center. As an ongoing multiplayer game, story is one of its weakest points by design. That’s probably why the most recentPvE quest focused on Rampart, outlining new things to know about her, rather than Loba.
It is entirely possible that the Broken Ghost storyline will continue, just in a different way that Casiello intended. WithTitanfall 3apparently in development, the world ofApex Legendsmay change in accordance with its release. Furthermore, if therumor that aTitanfallantagonist is coming toApex Legendsis true, she may very well send the story in a new direction.
How much effortApex Legendswill devote to PVE in the future is debatable, as it is built for PvP first and foremost. Still, many players loveApex Legens' lore and want more of it. Although it may never be a huge part of the game, players can still hope for theNetlflix seriesto become a reality.
Apex Legendsis available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version in development.
