InAssassin’s Creed Mirage, players will explore 9th century Baghdad in a coming-of-age story as Basim, a young street thief that eventually becomes a legendary Master Assassin. Ubisoft’s new title pays homage to thefirstAssassin’s Creedgameby going back to its action-adventure roots rather than the RPG style thatAssassin’s Creed Valhallaused. Gameplay appears to be another focal point forAssassin’s Creed Miragewith Ubisoft claiming that Basim is “the most versatile Assassin” in the franchise’s history. Basim will have a variety of tools at his disposal, and his parkour skills allow him to easily navigate the bustling city of Baghdad.

In a new video titled “A Return to the Roots,” Ubisoft confirms thatAssassin’s Creed Mirageincludes a “nostalgic visual filter” option that harkens back to 2007’sAssassin’s Creed. When the option is turned on, the player may enjoyAssassin’s Creed Miragewith a desaturated blue-gray color palette that the originalAssassin’s Creedgame once had on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. TheAssassin’s Creed Miragedevelopment teamdemonstrates this feature with actual gameplay as Basim explores Baghdad and assassinates a target on a rooftop.
Ubisoft reiterates thatAssassin’s Creed Mirageis developed by a passionate team that wishes to pay tribute to the original game.Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s"core pillars" are parkour, stealth and assassinations according to the development team, but players can expect some “surprises” as well. One of these surprises appears to be the nostalgic visual filter, and Ubisoft plans to reveal more details in subsequent videos and trailers.
The returning color palette feature is an endearing addition by theAssassin’s Creed Miragedevelopment team. Although some may consider the filter option to be fanservice, it’s another sign that majorUbisoft franchises are going back to their rootsin order to regain good will with the community and make their fans happy with exciting game releases.
