The remake for the firstCall of Duty: Modern Warfaregame released back in 2019, and since that title gave the franchise somewhat of a soft reboot, fans have eagerly awaitedCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Back in June, gamers got a look atModern Warfare 2in an explosive gameplay trailer that promised the release of an open beta for those who pre-ordered the game. However, fans weren’t told when that beta would be released, leading to speculation all over the internet.
Some had believed thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s betawould be playable from some point in August thanks to an Amazon leak. However, it appears now that the previously “leaked” information has proven to be false, as Activision have confirmed that theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2open beta won’t be launching any time this month. Instead, fans can expect to test out the game’s multiplayer in September, following its reveal on the 15th.

It had been previously predicted thatModern Warfare 2’smultiplayerwould be revealed in early September, but it appears that this is not the case, and that Activision is aiming to unveil the game’s online functions in close proximity to releasing the open beta.Modern Warfare 2’sbeta, as with previousCall of Dutytitles, will take place over the course of two weekends, with the first days of play being available to PlayStation owners exclusively. The first weekend of the open beta begins on September 16, and runs until the 20th, with another period of play from the 22 to 26.
Those who pre-orderedModern Warfare 2will get early access to the beta, and be the only players eligible for 16, 17, 22, and 23 of September dates. At theModern Warfare 2multiplayer reveal, which takes place one day before early access begins, it is expected fans will alsofind out more onWarzone 2, as well as the unveiling ofWarzonemobile. According to prominent gaming leaker Tom Henderson, Activision is aiming for a “slam dunk” with itsCall of Dutyinformation this year, meaning the company is looking to unveil as much as it can in mid-September to get fans hyped for an October release.
Before the multiplayer reveal of the game in September, Activision has shown off thefirst map forModern Warfare 2, which is the Marina Bay Grand Prix, which allows combat to take place alongside a Formula 1 race. While this new map seems interesting, many are hoping some classic multiplayer arenas will make their way back to theCall of Dutyfranchise with the release ofModern Warfare 2.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2launches on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
