It’s been incredibly difficult to get ahold of an Oculus Quest for some time. The PC-free Virtual Reality headset has made a pretty big splash in the market, as it’s now easier than ever for fans of VR to play games without needing a beefy PC. However, availability for the Quest has been rough, and it appears that the coronavirus is making that even worse.
Getting ahold of a Quest was already difficult enough, as high demand has made them difficult to find online and at retail, with resellers currently raising prices to unreasonable amounts on websites like eBay. If that wasn’t bad enough, Facebook is anticipating prolonged supply issues due to the coronavirus, which has hindered production. Facebook isn’t alone, either, asNintendo will likely face Switch shortagesdue to the coronavirus outbreak.

Right now, it isn’t even possible to order an Oculus Quest through official avenues. Trying to purchase the headset through Oculus' website simply leads to a grey button that says “unavailable,” which seems to be the case at most other retailers too. That leaves the aforementioned resellers, though those prices are substantially more than the standard $399 price tag for the 64 GB model, sometimes reaching as high as $700.
The coronavirus has had a significant impact on events and products all around the world. Earlier today,Sony announced it wouldn’t attend PAX Eastdue to coronavirus-fueled concerns, disappointing many gamers that had hoped to see the company’s games at the show.
With fears mounting thatPS5 and Xbox One may be delayeddue to the coronavirus, the list of products and events that have been directly affected by the disease has continued to grow day by day. There’s no telling what events may be affected next, though it’s possible that it could be another nail in the coffin for E3 if it isn’t dealt with soon.
Of course, thecoronavirus has far worse effectsthan being unable to buy a VR headset or play a game. It comes at a high human cost, and with any luck, the disease will be handled sooner rather than later.
