There are severalendings toCyberpunk 2077that players can unlock based on their choices and experiences in the world of Night City, but most of the base game’s endings still leave V with something of a “ticking clock.” Instead of resolving the issue of the Relic and its destruction of V’s neural network, most endings focus on V getting to become a living legend in Night City, going out in a blaze of glory, or getting to spend more time with the people they’ve grown to care for throughout their story. The same can’t be said about The Tower ending introduced in the Phantom Liberty expansion, as it leaves very little up to the imagination in terms of how V’s story concludes.
If players side with Solomon Reed and choose to hand Songbird over to the FIA, this sets off a chain of events that will culminate in players getting to choose The Tower ending on Misty’s rooftop, with V heading to DC and getting the Relic safely removed. After some heart-wrenching goodbyes to Johnny Silverhand, V goes under the knife, entering a coma and waking 2 years later to find out howNight Cityhas changed in their absence. V can no longer use Cyberware and finds that most of their closest friends have moved on, but their knowledge of the city’s inner workings and propensity toward the mercenary lifestyle make them an ideal candidate for a Fixer.
If ‘The Tower’ is Cyberpunk 2077’s Canon Ending, V Could Play a Major Role in Project Orion
V’s loss of the ability to use Cyberware might seem like a death knell for their life as a merc in Night City, but it also could be the initiating event to V settling into the next best thing – a Fixer. As someone who intimately knows the power dynamic that exists between the various major corporations and gangs in Night City, as well as first-hand knowledge of top-level merc work, V stands to be one of the most powerful and influential Fixers in all of Night City. Alternatively,The Tower endingalso sets up the potential for V to become an agent of the NUSA, working side-by-side with Solomon Reed at Langley.
In either scenario, V is a likely candidate for being a major NPC inCyberpunk 2077’s sequel. Whether they assist Project Orion’s new protagonist as an elite Fixer who assigns gigs or act as a government operative with deeper connections to the web of intrigue underlying Project Orion’s plot, The Tower ending sets up V to be one of the most important NPCs in a sequel. And while The Tower ending is a bit of a “live happily ever after” moment for V, it shouldn’t be the last players see of the character.
