With October being the month of all things spooky, it’s inevitable that many horror games will be getting some special update before the 31st approaches. Even non horror games likeNo Man’s Skyare getting the Halloween treatment, which shows how popular this time of year is. However, when it comes to full-on horror titles, especially online ones,Dead by Daylightis one of the most successful at the moment. Now, the studio has released a trailer which showcases the game’s latest Tome update.
Called “Crescendo,” this latest Tomb represents the ninth thatDead By Daylighthas added to the game since Tomb one back in 2019. A short trailer was uploaded to the official game’s YouTube channel, and done in anime-style. The footage shows two characters,The Trickster and Yun-Jin Lee from the Kill-All Chapters. The video’s description says Tome 9 will “thrust” these two into the spotlight, and will include memories of them, as well as The Observer, one of the game’s characters that always comes with these type of updates.

Tomes are extra bits of lore that get added toDead by Daylight. They come with new challenges and rewards. Players who complete the challenges will be rewarded with the extra story content, as well as cinematics, charms, and extra Bloodpoints. Tome 8, calledDeliverence, was released in July, and provided more backstory to The Clown Killer, as well as having a focus on survivor Jake Park, and the aforementioned Observer. Like this latest one, it also had new challenges and lore for players to unlock.
Unfortunately, it seems as though the studio is currently experiencing something of a backlash from the community. Recently, it was revealed thatDead by Daylighthad added NFTs to the game, which has caused an outcry among fans who see non-fungible tokens, which allow people to own digital content, as controversial. One user even referenced a previous tweet in which Bohemia Interactive said it wouldn’t get involved with NFTs. Interestingly, the studio recently put out a statement on its Twitter page saying that Bohemia “do not sell NFTs” which does not appear to be placating the community.
Despite the controversy,Dead by Daylightis something of a staple in the horror community, especially when it comes to Halloween. This latest Tome shows that the studio is still continuing to put out content for it, NFT or otherwise. Whatever backlash the game and studio may be experiencing, it doesn’t stop it from being one of the biggest online survival horror tiles on the market at the moment.
