Bungie confirms thatDestiny 2is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X. Sincetaking control of theDestinyIPin early 2019, developer Bungie has had full publishing rights to the series, allowing it to make big decisions such as releasing it on next-generation consoles.
After theXbox Series X gameplay revealstream, Xbox posted a tweet showing fans just how many third-party teams are developing something for the new console. Just above EA and to the right of Bethesda, fans will have spottedDestiny 2developer Bungie. Fans didn’t have long to wonder what the company is working on as the official Bungie Twitter account soon tweeted that “Destiny 2 will be on next-gen platforms!” TheDestiny 2next-gen tweet was in response to an Xbox Series X tweet but the use of “platforms” suggests that the game will also be available on PS5.

Bungie told its fans that there will be “more details to come” onDestiny 2’s next-gen release. The developer has worked very closely with Sony and there have been several pieces ofPS4-exclusiveDestiny 2content, though these were later made available for PC and Xbox One players.
In June 2019, Bungie announced that there would be no more PS4-exclusiveDestiny 2content, but that doesn’t mean that the two companies have stopped working together. It is possible that if Bungie and Sony are friendly with each other, moreDestiny 2next-gen information could come at the PS5 reveal event, which is rumored to be taking place later this month or in early June.
It’s unclear how the next-gen version ofDestiny 2will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Xbox has announced an Xbox Series X feature called Smart Delivery which allows gamers to get an Xbox Series X version of a game if they have it on Xbox One. CD Projekt RED has confirmed thatCyberpunk 2077will use Smart Deliveryand Ubisoft is also planning to use the feature forAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. However, Sony hasn’t announced a PS5 version of Smart Delivery, which could make it more difficult or more expensive for players to getDestiny 2on the new console.
Fans will also want to know how this will affectDestiny 3, which is likely to release on PS5 and Xbox Series X. There have been severalDestiny 3leaksthough Bungie hasn’t officially announced the game. ReleasingDestiny 2on next-gen consoles could mean thatDestiny 3won’t be available as soon as fans would like or Bungie just wants to keep people playing while they wait for the new game. Bungie may provide more information about this when giving fans more details about next-genDestiny 2.
