Destiny 2players who find themselves frustrated by the lack of cowboy hat drops in the new Spire of the Watcher dungeon may have just had their troubles validated by hard, cold statistics, it would seem. The new Season 19 dungeon features a set of Tex Mechanica armor and weapons with a Wild West aesthetic, but the most emblematic part of these armor sets have rarely been dropping.
Destiny 2’s Spire of the Watcher takes players on a romp through an ancient Warmind facility in an effort to stop the forces of the Witness from taking control over it. The entire endeavor is funded by one of theDestinyuniverse’s arms manufacturers, Tex Mechanica, whose cowboy-themed armor is one of the dungeon’s most coveted drops.

As interesting asDestiny 2’s Spire of the Watcher weaponsmay be, most players seem much more interested in unlocking the dungeon’s unique Tex Mechanica armor sets instead. Featuring trench coats and cowboy hats, the set leans heavily into the manufacturer’s sci-fi Wild West approach to design, which immediately had players farming the dungeon in droves to unlock it in full. Each class has its own unique cowboy hat helmet to unlock, too, but according to Reddit user sunder_and_flame’s analysis, Bungie seems to have weighted heavily against it dropping, making it rarer than even the dungeon’s Exotic weapon.
ThoughDestiny 2Season 19has a whole slew of well-designed armor, cowboy hats have enthralled the community, only to have many players disappointed with how hard it is to get them to drop. According to sunder_and_flame’s explanation, cowboy hat helmets are roughly 20-25% as likely to drop as the rest of the armor pieces. Worse yet, the Hunters' armor set has its own cowboy hat tied to the Class Item drop, the cape. Since there aren’t any stats tied to Class Items, they are by default 66-75% as likely to drop as other, more useful armor pieces, which compounds with the already reduced odds of getting cowboy hats in Spire of the Watcher. In a practical sense, the Hunters' hat is about twice as rare as the new Exotic bow.
As difficult as it may be to farm the cowboy armor in full, players interested in Spire of the Watcher’s Wild West aesthetic are having a field day in Season 19. Not only is the Tex Mechanica armor remarkably well designed, but it also pairs well withDestiny 2’s re-released Rose hand cannon, allowing anyone to dress up as a space cowboy, should they wish to do so.
Those who aren’t keen on the cowboy theme, however, shouldn’t despair. Not only are there two all-new Warmind/Rasputin armor sets available right now, but there’s alsoDestiny 2’s rendition ofAssassin’s Creedarmorsets to take into account. Overall, Season 19 is a great time for players looking to spice up theirDestinywardrobes, even if some pieces are hard to come by.
