The iconic first-person shooterDoomis a game that is never out of the spotlight for long. This time around, the collectibleDoommerchandise featured in the “Classic DOOM Helmet Collector’s Bundle” includes a 13 x 14 x 11.4 in. wearable replica of the Doom Slayer helmet, as well as aDoomenamel pin in the shape of a floppy disc, and a print of the eye-catching box art from the original game. The centerpiece of this $139.99 USD bundle is clearly the helmet which, for a video game collectible, looks to be of pretty solid quality. It includes battle-worn scuffs and a nice patina, giving it a well-used look.
For a 17-year-old game, it is impressive that interest inDoomhas remained as high as it has. Fans continue to dig into the game to discover secrets and only recently did a fan discoverthe source ofDoom’s sound effects. The unusual enemy screams were created by re-pitching sound effects found in fairly generic, easily sourced sound effect packs.
Whether it is sound effect analysis, running the game on just about anything, orpairingDoomwithFall Guysin a mod, the franchise clearly has a devoted fanbase. These same fans quickly snapped up vinyl copies of the original soundtrack (also produced by Limited Run), so it is likely these helmets will sell quickly, especially as there will only be 4,000 made.
With aNintendo Switch port ofDoom Eternalvery close and DLC set to release later this year, there is plenty to look forward to forDoomfans.
