Summary

It didn’t take long for dedicatedDragon Agefans to realizeDreadwolf(DA4’s original title) was ananagram for Fade World, as it fits perfectly into Solas' plot to tear down the Veil. That’s not lost withDragon Age: The Veilguard, which becomes an interesting, less clear anagram: Evil Daughter.

Anagrams and Solas go hand-in-hand. Solas' companion quest hinted at his true identity in an anagram: All New, Faded for Her becomes Dread Wolf Fen’Harel.Dragon Age: The Veilguardmay shift the focus from Solas to the companions, but it’s not likely that this anagram is pure coincidence. It certainly could be, but at the same time, the anagram would explain something peculiar about the subtitle.

As many have noted,Dragon Age: The Veilguardrolls off the tongue a little roughly - that’s because of the article “the” being placed betweenDragon AgeandVeilguard. Dragon Age: Veilguardis so much smoother, and it’s unlikely the devs weren’t aware of this as they were deciding on the name. The result is that the has to be intentional, and including it to complete the anagram makes the most sense. Of course, the next question is what this has to do withDragon Agelore.

The first thing that comes to mind is Flemeth/Mythal and Morrigan, and withSolas having absorbed Mythal, there could be something to it. Neither of them should really be described as evil, but it lines up with Flemeth’s focus on daughters. Perhaps Solas absorbing Mythal has corrupted her role as The Protector, similar to Abominations inDragon Age, and that comes into effect. On the other hand, the Evanuris seemingly have a big role and it could be connected to them somehow. Again, Evil Daughter doesn’t really explain any of the standard Evanuris Gods, but it could be in reference to The Forgotten Ones, given how little is known about them.

Dragon Age: Veilguard - Who is the Evil Daughter

Possibilities:

The Dalish people believe the Forgotten Ones were gods of terror and malice, who fought a war with the Evanuris. Solas supposedly trapped the Evanuris in the “heavens” and the Forgotten Ones in the “abyss.” The known Forgotten Ones are Geldauran, Daern’thal, and Anaris, and one of these figures (or others) may be the evil daughter mentioned here. No one knows where the abyss is and some believe that the Forgotten Ones became the Tevinter Old Gods - the now-Archdemons. The Evil Daughter could also referenceRazikale, one of two remaining Archdemons.

Ultimately, who the Evil Daughter is remains to be seen, but it’s clear that BioWare has only scratched the surface when it comes toDragon Age: Veilguardreveals.
