Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotdeveloper CyberConnect2 and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment have been relatively quiet here lately, but it’s clear that neither company is one to rest on its laurels. Yesterday, newscreenshots of Super Saiyan 3 Goku and Super Vegitomade their way onlien, which Bandai Namco followed up with a brand new trailer today. Dubbed the “Game Introduction,” this trailer shows sidequests, major battles like Goku and Piccolo vs. Raditz and Goku vs. Frieza, and the game’s open world exploration.
Promising that there would be moments that only diehard fans will remember while also providing new experiences through sidequests,Dragon Ball Z: Kakarothighlighted its dedication to telling Goku’s story. Nam the Peddler, for example, appears despite the fact that he hadn’t been seen since Goku’s younger days, and it even shows some dialogue from presumable side quests.

One detail that the trailer highlights about combat is how fighting games fail to capture the dire consequences and strength of Goku’s enemies, which will be much more accurate inDragon Ball Z: Kakarot. To be specific, there will be enemies who push the player’s limits and far exceed the capabilities ofGoku, putting more pressure on the player than the typical fighting genre can do. It also promises “dynamic battles on a epic scale,” as there are reportedly no invisible walls during combat.
As far as open world exploration goes, it shows how players can train, spend time with allies like Piccolo, obtain food as Goku, and more. Though it’s worth mentioning that the trailer’s narrator clarifies that this isn’t a fully open world game, as players will still need to be able to follow theoriginal story ofDragon Ball Z. After that, players are told to keep an eye out for a lot more to be revealed before the trailer showcases some combat between Goku and Frieza, the fight where Goku first became Super Saiyan.
For those who are already hyped forDragon Ball Z: Kakarot, this trailer does much to continue that along. It even gets players a glimpse at edition bonuses at the very end of the trailer, but it’ll be interesting to see what more the company has up its sleeve. Could it be hinting at more filler content like theGarlic Jr. Sagaor perhaps even extended content from Dragon Ball Super? Only time will tell.
