Summary
Square Enix isn’t ruling out the possibility of a thirdFinal Fantasy 16expansion, a senior company official has said. But that is not to say that fans should expect moreFinal Fantasy 16DLC after The Rising Tide.
Back when the critically acclaimed RPG hit the market in June 2023, the long-time series producer, Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida, said he wasn’t sure if the game would receive any post-launch content, stating how that solely depends on its commercial performance. But sinceFinal Fantasy 16ended up breaking some impressive salesrecords within days of its debut, it didn’t take long for Square Enix to commit to two expansions. The first of those, Echoes of the Fallen, launched in December, whereas the second one, The Rising Tide, is scheduled to be released in spring 2024.

Third Final Fantasy 16 Expansion Is Not Impossible, But Also Not Likely
Asked about the possibility of a third DLC pack in a recent interview withGame Informer, Yoshida labeled that inquiry as “a difficult question,” but without ruling anything out. The official explained that no more expansions have been greenlit just yet, and that he’s under the impression that the development team wants to move on to other projects. At the same time, “the possibility of moreDLC content forFinal Fantasy 16is not zero,” he concluded.
Even if Square Enix were indeed to wrap up its post-launch support with The Rising Tide, its 2023 RPG would still end up receiving more downloadable content than its numerical predecessor did; althoughFinal Fantasy 15technically offered half a dozen DLC packs, its four character-focused episodes were all fairly short experiences, lasting about an hour each. In contrast, theFinal Fantasy 16Echoes of the Fallen expansion takes around three hours to beat, whereas The Rising Tide is touted as an even longer experience that could run in the ballpark of eight to ten hours.
The possibility of more DLC content for Final Fantasy 16 is not zero.
All things considered, Yoshida’s recent comments don’t exactly inspire confidence in the possibility of a third expansion ever materializing. But not everyone will necessarily be disappointed with this turn of events, as some fans have previously posited thatit’s a good thingFinal Fantasy 16won’t overstay its welcomewith years' worth of DLC.
In the meantime, The Rising Tide is still waiting for its official release date, which is likely to be announced in the coming weeks if Square Enix is still targeting a spring 2024 launch. Beyond that, the company is also currently working on the game’s PC port, which has a decent chance of seeing the light of day before the end of the year.
