TheResident Evilgames are currently enjoying something of a resurgence, with remakes and new entries a-plenty, keeping the franchise fresh for newcomers and older fans. Asone of the most influential horror games of all time, the first installment in the Capcom series pretty much set the bar for subsequent releases back in the 1990s, and it’s still influencing studios to this day. Not surprisingly then, some people in the fan community have been busy working on a remake of the first game, with a potential 2022 release date being announced.

In a YouTube video uploaded a couple of weeks ago, the channel Residence of Evil has showcased eight minutes of theResident Evilfan remake, which takes the original game and rebuilds it entirely in the modernREengine. The footage shows the incredible work that has gone into the project so far, showing the game from the now-standard third-person perspective that the franchise is currently known for. While there is no definite release date yet, the video does hope for it to be launched this year.

Perhaps one of the most intriguing things about this remake, other than the visuals and the fact that it’s a complete reworking of the 1996 classic game, is that the creators have included theRaccoon City Police Department seen inResident Evil 2. Ordinarily, the first game starts with Jill and/or Chris entering the Spencer Mansion after their helicopter crashes nearby. However, in this iteration, it looks like players will start off in a sort of prologue whereby they will get to explore RPD, which includes police officer NPCs milling about the place, before they hitch a ride with Brad on the helicopter.

On top of that, the developers are also working on aremake ofResident Evil: Code Veronica. The description under the YouTube video says that both games are being worked on simultaneously, which means neither project is being prioritized over another. Similar toRE1,Code Veronicawill be coming in 2022, but there is no exact date specified just yet.

SinceRE2andRE3got rebooted officially, now seems the right time for fans to get in on the act. With someoneremakingResident Evilin Unreal Engine 4, there’s a lot of work being done to bring these classic, and influential, horror games into the modern era, to shine a new light on them by changing perspectives or simply changing some things that weren’t present in the original. It’s an exciting time to be a fan of the games.

TheResident Evilfan remake is due for release in 2022.
