Being one of the most popular live-service games around,Fortniteis no stranger to hosting limited-time events. Every Season or so, it’s pretty common forFortniteto host a limited-time eventthat ties in with an upcoming movie, TV show, or game. These events often bring a few skins to the game, along with some other cosmetics, and occasionally even some themed tie-in weapons and items. Right now,Fortniteis hosting “Skywalker Week,” which feels like it comes just a little too late.
On top of bringing Han Solo, Leia, and Luke skins to the game, Skywalker Weekbrings backFortnite’sStar Warsweapons. Players are able to swing a lightsaber and fire off an E-11 Blaster, receive bounties from Stormtroopers, and take on Darth Vader. Along with the content additions,Fortnitehas also included some newStar Wars-themed challenges that grant players a decent amount of XP. While this event is a great one, it does feel a tad out of place this Season.

Fortnite’s Skywalker Week Feels Late to the Party
Bringing back lightsabers, E-11 Blasters, Stormtroopers, and Darth Vader are all great examples of how wellFortnitereuses its content. By bringing back the same items and enemies, but adding a slew of new challenges and skins, the content feels fresh again without Epic Games needing to add any content beyond cosmetics. But the context surrounding Skywalker Week is a little odd.
InFortnite’scurrent Season, the story is revolving around a mysterious Chrome threat that’s taking over the island bit by bit. This Chrome substance is being controlled by apink-haired being known as The Herald, who players can fight against in the Herald’s Sanctum. Along with a bunch of new Chrome-based items,Fortnite’s map has also seen additions and changes, with a handful of buildings now attached to balloons and lifted into the air.
WithFortnitecurrently deep in its own storyline, it seems a bit odd to introduce aStar Warscrossover, and bring back a lot of the elements that were introduced last Season. In the prior Season, Darth Vader was the main draw of the Battle Pass, being the final reward. On top of that, a Darth Vader boss NPC could be found and defeated in a match to obtain his lightsaber, which was originally added to tie in withDisney+‘sObi-Wan Kenobishow.
Skywalker Week would’ve made a lot more sense if it was added toFortnitelast Season. With the game centering around Darth Vader last Season, it would have been the perfect time to introducethe originalStar Warstrio, and the Skywalker Week name would have been even more fitting given Vader is Anakin Skywalker. This could have also paved the way for a few moreStar Warsskins based on the original trilogy, such as an old Ben Kenobi skin, which would have also tied in neatly with the Disney+ show.
Instead, Skywalker Week is happening amid one ofFortnite’s busiest Seasons, and it has gotten a little lost because of it. It also doesn’t help that Skywalker Week was released at the same time as a few other limited-time events. For instance,Fortniteis currently giving away a free Chrome Punk skin if players level up their account, and players can get aPickle Rick Back Bling for freeif they playFortnite’s Horde Rush mode. There’s a lot going on inFortniteright now, and while the wealth of content certainly isn’t a bad thing, Epic Games could have done a better job of spacing these events out.
Fortniteis available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
