Summary

The Casting of Frank Stonecould be a preview of a future killer inDead by Daylight, but his road to the Fog may not be completely clear. While he is the face of a kind of project thatDead by Daylighthasn’t been affiliated with before, there’s more nuance to the situation than that.Dead by Daylightalready has a lot of killers, and their number is constantly increasing. Players have plenty of options, especially regarding the highly-anticipated licensed killers. So far, fans don’t know much about Frank Stone, and it’s up to his game to change that.

As a newDead by Daylightsingle-player game,The Casting of Frank Stonetakes a risk by focusing on a new character. Frank was a serial killer who terrorized the town of Cedar Hill, becoming an urban legend following his reign of terror. From the trailer, it looks like players will be taking control of a group of four characters as they discover more about Frank’s legacy, which seems to have some connection toDead by Daylight’s extraplanar villain, The Entity. The Casting of Frank Stone’s narrative approach should give players a new angle on the terrifying universe ofDead by Daylight.

Dead by Daylight’s first single-player spin-off,Hooked on You, was a comedic dating sim, far different from the darkness ofThe Casting of Frank Stone.

Frank Stone Has Similarities to Existing DbD Killers

Frank Stone has a similar design toDead by Daylight’s mascot, The Trapper, which is actually his first problem. Looking so similar toDead by Daylight’s most famous face doesn’t let Frank shine on his own. It gets even worse when one remembers that Trapper has his own set of welder-themed gear that bears an even greater resemblance to Frank. As if that wasn’t enough, he wouldn’t even be the only killer named Frank, since Frank Morrison, leader of The Legion, came first. If Frank Stone becomes one ofDead by Daylight’s killers, he’s already at a disadvantage when it comes to being memorable.

Frank Stone Needs Unique Killer Abilities

The main thing that setsDead by Daylight’s killersapart from each other is their powers. For example, The Wraith turns invisible and moves at high speeds, while the Artist can use her crows to reveal far-off Survivors. A Killer’s power forms the base of their strategy, making it a vital part of their design. So far, there’s no real indication of what Frank Stone’s power could be, because it’s only been revealed that he likes to murder people. Whatever Behaviour Interactive comes up with for him, it needs to be something that makes him feel unlike any other killer.

The Casting of Frank Stone Must Define His Character

One of the biggest determining factors for acrossover betweenDead by DaylightandFrank Stonewill likely beThe Casting of Frank Stoneitself. Frank has the advantage of having a full game to build up his story and legacy before a potential entry toDead by Daylight. This has the potential to drive up interest in him ahead of his debut inDead by Daylightif the game manages to make him into a sufficiently interesting or intimidating character. Normally, only licensed killers get that opportunity. The Casting of Frank Stonecan’t waste the opportunity to build up its titular killer as a major threat.

It seems likely that Frank Stone will be thenext Killer inDead by Daylightafter his game comes out, but it’s not certain. The Casting of Frank Stonewill need to do plenty to flesh him out before he’s ready for prime time. Greatly resembling one Killer and a name with another is not a great start, but both of those can be overcome if he gets built up strongly enough. Frank Stone could beDead by Daylight’s next killer, but he will need some help to get there.
