The next installment in theGod of Waris hopefully on the way and possibly coming tobeef up the library of Sony’s PS5when it launches. With everything that has already come in the series, there is one character who players already feel like they know, even if they’ve never met her.
This would be Faye, Kratos' new wife and the mother of the Greek God’s new son, Atreus. Players are introduced to her as a corpse on a funeral pyre in 2018’sGod of War. At the moment, the woman has gained a level of mythology around herself, being revealed to have foreseen and orchestrated the events of the previous game, all while players have never really seen her face.

The player never really gets to see Faye, but is instead introduced to her as a myth through legends and stories shared by Atreus, Kratos, and even the Dwarves who made her Leviathan Axe. It may be a change of pace for the series, but many layers have voiced how they wish they could see Faye in action, possibly even playing as her in a time before her eventual passing. This would make for a stark contrast from the rest of the series, especially deviating from theone shot filming ofGod of War, but may be a risk worth taking if delivered properly.
Faye and Kratos Meet
A meeting between two godly figures like the woman players now know Faye to be and the famous rage monster that is the Kratos from just after killing Zeus would surely be an epic moment. However, considering that Kratos fought against his history of slaughtering everything that comes near him, it would be interesting to see how the character became the man players meet inGod of War. This meeting has even beenhinted at byGod of WarDirector Cory Barlog, as being a point that the developer is excited to visit in future installments.
The most recentGod of Warbrought some tender moments to the franchise with the character development between Kratos and Atreus. Similarly, showcasing how the rage monster that players knew back in the original series falls in love and is able to settle down after his bloodthirsty rampage through the Greek Pantheon would make for another surprisingly human moment. Of all the things the newly bearded Kratos brings to the series, it’s how relatable he is as a father, trying desperately to do right by his child that sets the newGod of Warapart, and similar dynamic of him as a husband could really drive this theme home.
Faye Raising Atreus
Throughout 2018’sGod of War, the player is constantly reminded that Atreus and his father have a strained relationship due to Kratos never being around. What we do learn thanks to this, however, is that before the game starts, Atreus was raised by Faye on her own while Kratos was away. So, it would be interesting to see how different Atreus and Faye’s relationship is from his with his father.
Being able to view the dynamic between the mother and son, especially sinceAtreus was almost absent fromGod of Warcould also give an added weight to the sense of loss that drives the latest game. Up until now, players have known that Atreus and Kratos were sad because the game told them. If players can see Atreus' dependence on his mother before she is ultimately taken from him, the player can feel the pain along with the characters.
The Prophecy of Ragnarok
This is one of the bigger questions within the current generation ofGod of Waras a whole, so it would make sense if it doesn’t get answered right away. However, the air ofmystery surrounding Ragnarokand the Giant’s ability to see the future is something that should be touched upon in future games. The reveal at the end that Faye foresaw the entire series of events that led to Kratos and Atreus finding Jotunheim left a lot of questions up in the air.
So if Faye does make a more substantial appearance in the nextGod of War, some insight on the Giant’s foresight would be welcome. A view of this Prophacy of Ragnarok that seems to guide the Antagonist’s actions could give more purpose to their opposition of Kratos. Although, for this reason, players may want to be prepared to wait until the end of the Norse story arc for this type of revelation.

Faye Wielding the Leviathan Axe
This is the big moment that players have been waiting for ever since Kratos first metBrok and Sindriand learned the truth about the Leviathan Axe. With the weapon originally being crafted Faye to wield, seeing the mythical woman hurl the familiar weapon with as much force as Kratos would be a thrilling experience. The moment would be especially satisfying if the player were to be controlling Faye at the time as well.
The moment could easily be as satisfying as when Kratos first pulled the blades of chaos from under his floorboards in 2018’sGod of War. A flashback scene where the player is watching the story unfold as Faye is attacked by draur beforesummoning the Leviathan Axeto her hand would be the ultimate payoff for her built up mythos. To pull it off would require a risk of putting the player in control of a new character for once, but successful, this could be one of the best moments of the new games thanks in part to the myth that surrounds Faye.
The Fate of the Giants
Similar to the Prophecy of Ragnarok, what truly happened to the Giants of Jotunheim is likely not going to be revealed in the next game, but will rather be explored towards the end of the Norse series. For now, all players know is that when Kratos and Atreus first arrive at the realm of the Giants, there are none of them left, and some sort of prophecy involving Faye, Kratos, and Atreus is scrawled on the wall. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the Giants are all dead, although that is certainly a possibility, considering how many realms Kratos travels to and never finds them.
That being said, the current state of the realm does leave the possibility of a twist where the Giants emerge from some secret hiding spot as they begin marching onward to the final confrontation with Odin. It could even be possible that the scattering of Faye’s ashes are what might lead the Giants to show themselves once again. For now, all we can do is wait anxiously for thenext installment ofGod of Warand hope that it brings some sort of closure to the lost race.
