God of War Ragnarok’s seventh chapter, The Runaway, kicks off just as Kratos and Freya are leaving Vanaheim. While traveling to the Mystic Gateway, Freya learns how to switch between different arrows. Learning this now is convenient as the upcoming chapter will rely heavily on Atreus doing the same.

Kratos and Atreus didn’t exactly part on good terms during The Lost Sanctuary, so things get a little heated when they meet at Sindri’s House. Atreus wishes to go to Asgard, but Kratos has no intention of allowing his son to do so. Feeling trapped, Atreus runs through the Mystic Gateway and finds himself in an unfamiliar area. Once the player gains control of the young god, the seventh chapter ofGod of War Ragnarokbegins.
Finding Shelter
A group of Hel-Walkers attacks Atreus shortly after he exits the Mystic Gateway. They are easy to fend off, especially now that Atreus canswitch between arrows. The only way forward from here is to run down the mountain path and leap across the gap.
The next area is home to a Wight, a deceptively difficult foe who deflects Runic Arrows. Beating it requires some blocking and parrying, but it goes down easily enough. Three Wisps emerge when it is defeated and can be stunned by a few well-aimed Runic Arrows.

There’s a mix of Hel-Walkers and Wisps in the following area. One of these Hel-Walkers is a bit more powerful than the rest, but the size of the arena permits Atreus to keep a safe distance away from it.

Continuing forward, Atreus will find himself approaching Freya’s abandoned house in The Sanctuary Grove. Chaurli is freezing cold, so the next step is to get inside and start a fire.
Following The Raven
A brief cutscene will play once the fire is lit. When it ends, Atreus will arrive at the Plains of Ida in Asgard. Continuing requires the young god to follow one of Odin’s ravens around the corner to Hrimthur’s Wall. The path forward is swarming with Grim enemies, and though they’re easily bested in combat, it’s important to watch out for their projectiles.
After dropping into a small cave, Atreus will come across anobelisk summoning Wisps. Once the obelisk has been destroyed, Atreus can leave through the cave at the end of the area. SomeGulonsare roaming around here, and they can be quite tough. Atreus' rage mode can make the battle a bit easier, but only if it’s used efficiently. The Gulons will explode after they’ve been defeated, so Atreus will need to dodge out of the blast zone to avoid taking damage. Making use ofHealthstones scattered throughout the arenacan go a long way if the player is struggling.

Atreus will find aLegendary Chestcovered in brambles upon climbing up the cliff, but he will need to keep going if he wants to open it. Like Freya in the last chapter, he mustset the brambles before him on fireby casting a few Hex bubbles. Once the nearby campfire has ignited them, he can move on. This is also a good time to connect the campfire to theLegendary Chest.
Climbing Hrimthur’s Wall
Atreus meets a young man named Skoldr in the next area. After the cutscene ends, it’s time to climb Hrimthur’s Wall. Climbing the first cliff face will lead to what looks like a dead end, but Atreus cangrapple up to a nearby pillarto get higher. There’s a Wight up on the next ridge, and like before, it deflects Rune Arrows. Once it has been destroyed, Atreus will need toshoot a Soundstonefrom up above to release a chain.
Atreus will have to enter a small hole in the wall once he reaches the next ridge. Two obelisksawait inside that need to be destroyed before moving on. After shooting theSoundstone on the right crate, Atreus must drop to the ledge on the left and jump over to the next area. There, he can shoota second Soundstoneto release the crate. Now, upon interacting with the crate, Atreus will be flung up to the next section.

Some Wisps are waiting here, but they’re easily dealt with thanks to theSonic Arrows. Once they have been taken care of, aRed Coffinawaits on the level above. From here, It’s a long climb to the top. Just before Atreus reaches the summit,a god named Heimdallgrabs his wrist. They exchange a quick back and forth before Heimdall concedes and reluctantly helps him up.
Meeting With Odin
Heimdall leads Atreus down to Gladsheim where they begin the journey to Odin’s home, The Great Lodge. Upon arriving, however, Heimdall prompts a group of Einherjar to attack. After defeating them, Heimdall enters the ring. It’s impossible to hit Heimdall, so all the player needs to do is kill some time before the next cutscene begins.
Odin knows Atreus was planning to trick him, but he doesn’t appear phased. Instead, he offers the young god a tour of his home. The next segment of this chapter requires Atreus to follow Odin for quite some time. Eventually, he will warp to his new room where Odin offers him a change of clothes. After picking up theAesir Uniform,Aesir Bow, andRunic Recharge, Atreus can find Odin in his study. If the player wishes, they can use the wardrobe tocustomize their equipmentbefore leaving.

Thrud will lead Loki to Odin, but, before entering, the player can choose to accompany her to the Great Hall. It’s a short segment, so there’s no reason to skip it. Once satisfied with the tour, it’s time to reconvene with Odin.
Odin gives Atreus a sentient sword named Ingrid once he enters the room. He then proceeds to lead Atreus into The Rift, a mine-like area, where he shows him a crack in space and time that he believes to be the source of all knowledge. Once the cutscene ends, the nextchapter ofGod of War Ragnarokbegins.
