In addition to the new card types, keywords, and class coming inMarch of the Lich King, the expansion introduces tons of new content. Players can look forward to a Death Knight launch event accompanying the expansion’s release. Like theHallow’s End event in early November, players can participate in the event using the new event rewards track to earn a pack, a card back, and playsets of threeMarch of the Lich KingSignature Cards–a new type of uncraftable collectible. Players can look forward to a Winterveil event in the near future.
The various game modes ofHearthstoneare also getting some love inMarch of the Lich King. The Enhance-o-Mechano hero is coming toHearthstonealong with an Enhance-o-Matic quest reward.Warcraft’sfavorite bronze dragon Chromieis coming to Mercenaries along with theMarch of the Lich Kingrewards track, and a new season of Arena will begin with the new card set. Lastly, the Duels mode is getting a big overhaul. Beyond the new set, card buckets are being revamped to provide smarter options for in-progress decks, and two new Death Knight heroes–Scarlet Leafdancer and Shai Shadestorm–are being added to the pool.
Of course, it wouldn’t be aHearthstonepatch without a couple nerfs. Theotar–a powerful Legendary that has seen an absurd amount of play since its release inMurder at Castle Nathria–is being nerfed again, and Ice Revenant is being nerfed due to unexpected synergy with the new Death Knight’s Frost Rune cards. These cards will be available for a full dust refund once the patch goes live.
Hearthstoneis also improving its duplicate protection system as well. If players collect an uncraftable version of a card, like a Signature orDiamondHearthstonecard, and earn another copy of the card at a lower rarity, they will immediately have the chance to re-roll the lower-rarity card into a different one from the same set–even if they pull Signature cards from a pack. This new system should make collecting Signature cards more rewarding, even if players already own the normal or Golden versions of those cards.
