Hogwarts Legacyis full of interesting side content, though not all of it is available right away. In fact, most ofthe game’s side questsare tied to main story progression, with players only able to trigger them after reaching a certain point in the story. This is once again the case with the “Follow the Butterflies” side quest, which, as the name suggests, requires players to follow some brightly colored butterflies through a dark and dingy forest.

“Follow the Butterflies” becomes available once players have completed their first Potions class, which takes place duringthe fourth act ofHogwarts Legacy. After their debrief with Professor Sharp, players will be able to trigger the side quest by speaking with a woman named Clementine Willardsey at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade. She’ll mention something about a swarm of butterflies and point players in the direction of the Forbidden Forest.
How to Complete the Follow the Butterflies Side Quest
There are severalHogwarts Legacyside quests that are designed to teach players about a specific mechanic, including “Like a Moth to a Frame.” “Follow the Butterflies” is a little similar to this early-game side quest, though rather than have players leading a winged creature somewhere to claim a reward, it instead requires them to follow a whole bunch of them instead. The end result is ultimately the same though, with players getting some kind of reward.
In the case of “Follow the Butterflies,” players will need to follow a swarm of butterflies from the entrance of the Forbidden Forest to a chest a little deeper inside. Opening this chest will reward players with the One or Two Rules Placards, which players will be able to use inthe Room of Requirementonce they have unlocked it. If this is the first time that they have followed a swarm of butterflies to treasure, they’ll also unlock the “Followed the Butterflies” Trophy/Achievement.
After opening the chest, players shouldfast travel back to Hogsmeadeand make their way to the Three Broomsticks to report their findings to Clementine. She’ll give players the Flower Box collection item, which, like the One or Two Rules Placards, can be used to decorate the walls of the Room of Requirement. As with other all of the other side quests inHogwarts Legacy, players will also receive 180 XP upon turning in the quest.
