Destiny 2’sstory expansion, The Witch Queen, received positive reviews, being considered a fantastic story with a great twist to conclude its narrative. The haunting beauty of Savathun’s Throne World inDestiny 2was also commended, blending aspects of the Light, Darkness, and grey areas in between to create an almost poisonous gorgeous dreamscape. While there are several activities to tackle in the Throne World, it sometimes feels a bit empty compared to other maps in the game, something that the new era of Lightfall could improve upon by making use of its unique setting: Neptune.

Lightfall releases August 06, 2025, and introduces players to the hidden city of Neomuna on Neptune, a city under siege from the forces of Darkness, led by Emperor Calus and his Shadow Legion. Now a Disciple of The Witness, Calus and his master are planning a second Collapse, with Neomuna seemingly at the epicenter of this forthcoming attack. Players will meet humans who have survived since possibly the first Collapse and the Cloud Striders - technologically augmented humans who defend the city - as Guardians wield thenew Darkness subclass, Strand. All these new elements could turn the flaws of Savathun’s Throne World into something greater with Lightfall.

How Lightfall’s New Setting Can Improve Over Savathun’s Throne World

The Throne World featured in The Witch Queen campaign has several entertaining activities that players can play through repeatedly, from hunting Deepsight Chests to Public Events. Activities such as Preservation receive refreshes every week, allowing players to farm Pinnacle gear, while other weapons appear only in specific objectives such as The Wellspring. The Altar of Reflection quests - weekly after finishing the campaign - allow players to solve puzzles to learn more about Year 5’s lore, as well asSavathun’s truths and lies game.

While these activities are bolstered by additional challenges such as Darkness Rifts, Deepsight Nodes, Lucent Hive events, collectible Lucent Moths, the Evidence Board, and the Queen of Worms quest, the Throne World doesn’t often beg players to return to it. Whether to knock a quest off their list or repeat weekly activities to farm for weapons and armor, these tasks don’t always make the best use of the map.

Guardians will explore Neomuna, the capital of Neptune, in Destiny 2 Lightfall.

WithLightfall’s cyberpunk-like Neomuna settingbeing described as a massive, neon city that players can explore thoroughly, it has the potential to create events rooted in this new and exciting location. One of the first things it should do to improve elements ofDestiny 2’s Throne World is to make it worth exploring every nook and cranny, rewarding players with gear, lore bits, or other features that warrant a return to its neon depths. Not only should exploration be at the heart of this, but there should be complexity to obtaining these rewards that make the search worthwhile.

How Lightfall Can Make Destiny 2 Activities and Neomuna More Enticing

With a neon, cyberpunk city at the player’s disposal, the colors and lights should play a significant role in any activity. While there are plenty of ways to do this, activities like neon light-centric puzzles, associated with music and colors, could create a new array of riddles for Guardians to solve. For example, withDestiny 2’s new Stand subclassproviding grappling hooks to all player classes, zipping through the neon city could factor into races, contests, and perhaps other PvP activities like a new Crucible map.

If such a map were created for Crucible, perhaps players would need to utilize Strand to race to an area, clear an objective (like capturing a flag or Rift), and fight their fellow Guardians. Additionally, since Neomuna is supposed to be significant and integral to the story and what players can do, instead of focusing on repeated weekly activities, Lightfall can present new Exotic quests similar to Season 19 and Presage. This would not only see players return toNeptune’s cyberpunk Neomuna, but the landscape could adjust to the events of the story, presenting different geographical locations and layouts as Year 6’s narrative and Seasons unfold.

Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
