The announcement thatGod of War Ragnarokwould bereceiving a DLC expansiontook a lot of people by surprise. The fact that it would be given away for free and would be releasing less than a week on from said announcement sent many into a frenzy. Now that it’s here, a lot of people are wondering whether it’s worth checking out.
In short, the answer to that question is a resounding yes, though as those looking to find out how long it takes to beat Valhalla will soon discover, short isn’t really a word that describes theGod of War RagnarokDLC. In fact, it’s a surprisingly sizable expansion, especially as players are able to download it without spending a dime.

How Long to Beat God of War Ragnarok Valhalla (Main Story Length)
It will take most playersbetween four and four and a half hoursto complete theGod of War RagnarokValhalla DLC, give or take thirty minutes or so. Although there may be some slight variance depending onwhich difficulty setting players choose, the difference between a Show Me Will playthrough and one on Show Me Prowess shouldn’t be too drastic provided players are able to keep Kratos alive. In theory, the same could be said of playing the game on the hardest difficulty setting, Show Me Mastery, though this is much easier said than done.
It’s worth noting that Valhalla’s roguelite elements make it an excellent option for completionists, as there’s still plenty to see and do even after players have finished the main story. Those hoping to complete all of the mastery challenges that are on offer andmax out all of Kratos' statscan expect to spend considerably longer with the expansion, with some people reporting playtimes above the ten-hour mark.

God of War Ragnarok Valhalla Completion Rewards
Upon finishingGod of War Ragnarok’s Valhalla DLC, players will receive a few different rewards. First, they’ll unlock a few new areas within Valhalla’s Upper Realms; these beingThe Desert of Lost Souls,The Aegean Boat, andThe Forum. The real prize, however, isthe Legacy Spartan Rage path, which allows players to use the Sword of Olympus in a regular playthrough and a new Spartan armor set that gives themthe ability to switch between young and old Kratoswith the push of a button. The latter can be used both in Valhalla and during a regular playthrough, providing players with a fairly compelling reason to replay the main story onGod of War Ragnarok’s New Game Plus mode, if they haven’t already.
How Does Valhalla Compare to Other DLC?
Valhalla is one ofthe best DLC expansions in recent memoryand would still be well worth experiencing even if it were priced at twenty or thirty bucks. The fact that it’s being given away for free makes it all the more compelling and serves as a reminder that not every developer is looking to milk their players dry. It would be nice if more developers and publishers took a similar approach moving forward, but for the time being,Valhalla goes firmly against the grain and is worthy of all the praise and recognition that it will undoubtedly receive.
