Despite some doubts, Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games’Hogwarts Legacymanaged to capture the magic of the Wizarding World and infuse it into its in-game settings. This was a tall order, and there were some who thoughtHogwarts Legacy’s ambitious aims wouldn’t be realized, but the action RPG has proved its naysayers wrong and built an interactive, impressive, and remarkable world full of magic and mystery. While players have enjoyed snooping around Hogwarts or experiencing Hogsmeade for themselves, there were some areas of the game that proved to be unexpectedly challenging.

Hogwarts Legacy’s 1800s settingopened up a whole new side to the world that fans thought they knew. While there were familiar touchstones such as certain locations or magical trappings that audiences have already encountered throughout the wholeHarry Potterfranchise,Hogwarts Legacywas still able to bring its own story to the table and set itself apart from other Wizarding World content. Many new locations were introduced inHogwarts Legacyincluding Falbarton Castle – the location of the particularly tricky High Keep quest that requires players to gain entry into the Gatehouse.

Hogwarts Legacy’s High Keep Quest

When gamers encounter Falbarton Castle for the first time, it’s already a ruin. The once prominent structure is now being used as a base by the Poacher Pack, an intimidating group of Dark witches and wizards who poach magical beasts and are known for wearing memorable metal masks. As well as being up to no good when it comes to mythical creatures, the Poacher Pack is also part of the Rookwood Gang – one ofHogwarts Legacy’s primary antagonistic forces. The High Keep quest at Falbarton Castleis therefore a central part ofHogwarts Legacy’s plot and provides some intriguing lore as well.

The High Keep quest also lets players unlock some useful new gameplay mechanics like flying mounts, but while this section of the game is crucial for story progression and gainingincriminating evidence against Victor Rookwood, its completion is not as straightforward as players might hope. Throughout the quest, gamers have to navigate their way around the ruins of Falbarton Castle as they climb the dilapidated stone structure and solve puzzles.Hogwarts Legacyis full of tasks and challenges that test players, but some found the act of even entering the Gatehouse to complete the quest a trying one.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Gatehouse Entry Issue

Unlocking flying mounts is motive enough to complete the High Keep quest, butHogwarts Legacydefinitely doesn’t make it easy for gamers. After traveling to Falbarton Castle and usinga Wingardium Leviosa-Levioso spell combinationto climb up the battlements, players are simply given the instruction to enter the Gatehouse. There are no further clues as to how they’ll be able to do this or where they even start, and given the many different steps they’ll need to take to complete the High Keep quest, some gamers have been getting frustrated with the unnecessarily unclear objective. Being forced to look up the solution to a puzzle can take players out of the game at inopportune times, and it’s something that most fans would prefer to avoid.

Navigating the ruins, breaking planks, using Accio to move a box to gain entry into the Gatehouse, and doubling back several times all make for a headache-y process that feels like it could have either been simpler or just more signposted. Including environmental puzzles and brain-teasers inHogwarts Legacyis a good way to encourage players to explore and test out their various magical abilities, but quests like the High Keep tend to stump gamers rather than present an enjoyable challenge.Hogwarts Legacyis full of fun quests, intriguing storylines, and unique extracurricular activities, but some of its smaller moments like finding a way to enter the Gatehouse could perhaps be a little better thought-out.

Hogwarts Legacyis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch port dropping on November 14.
