Charging into a horde of monsters with dual melee weapons is a staple part of many ARPGs, andLast Epochis no exception. Dual wielding weapons is a common mechanic found in the majority of games in this genre, but this one does it slightly differently.
Players may have already noticed by now thatLast Epoch’sbase character classescan’t wield anything sharp, pointy, or otherwise deadly in their off-hand slot right from the beginning of the game. This may be disappointing at first, but dual wielding is possible with a little bit of patience and investment.

Can You Dual Wield in Last Epoch?
Yes, but only after youlevel upandunlock a specific passive skillfor certain character classes. Normally, you may only use shields or magical items in your off-hand slot. However, once you earn enough levels, you’ll be able to dual-wield one-handed weaponslike in any other ARPG.
The skills you need to unlock are:
Dual-wielding is restricted to the classes listed above, and you may only equip the weapons as specified in their skill descriptions. That means Sentinels, for example, won’t be able to dual wield axes since the Gladiator skill only allows swords. Additionally, all dual wield passives come with apenalty to your survivabilityby increasing the damage you take by a small percentage.
Should You Dual-Wield Or Use Two-Handed Weapons?
Wielding two weapons can give you a higher overall DPS output, but this varies greatly from item to item. Two-handers typically have higher base damage and modifier values compared to one-handers, but the latter has the benefit of providing you with a wider range of affixes since you’re not restricted to using just one weapon. Also, when dual-wielding, the attack speed of both weapons gets evened out, and you’ll either attack faster or slower depending on what you have equipped.
There are no dual-strike mechanics or other similar gimmicks here, and weapons can basically be considered as just stat sticks that dictate your character’s overall strength. Dual-wielding does come with the aforementioned survivability cut. If you feel like you’re dying too often, you canrespec your passive tree in Last Epochto get rid of the dual wield passive and replace it with something more valuable for your build.
