A series of fakeThe Legend of Zelda Netflixposters featuring Tom Holland, Emma Watson, and Idris Elba prompted way too many people to think Netflix got its hands on Nintendo’s prized property.Admittedly, it’s not that hard to find the idea of aLegend of Zeldaseries tempting, especially since Netflix was closer than any other studio to landing it before Nintendo ultimately decided against the project. Still, theZeldaseries cancellationwas enough to stop nearly 30,000 users from sharing the original fake post on Facebook, with the artwork also making rounds on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.RELATED:More Games Should Adopt Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Climbing MechanicsThis is all thanks toDan Leveille, Director of Product Marketing at DeviantArt, who was resourceful enough to put togetherLegend of Zeldaimages. This was accomplished through AI-driven tools such as Midjourney and the increasingly popular DALL-E, combined with some Tencent ARC face restoration and Photoshop. Perhaps the funniest part is that Leveille listed the software he used to create these fakeLegend of Zeldaposters in all of his social media, explicitly telling people it was just a joke, all to no avail.[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/danlev/status/1577760869353607169[/EMBED_TWITTER]Of course, as seen in the tweet, Leveille didn’t stop at the core Triforce trio of Link (Holland), Zelda (Watson) and Ganondorf (Elba). He went all the way to create a star-studded cast that includes Saria (Game of Thronesstar Maisie Williams), Malon (Sadie Sink), Urbosa (Jameela Jamil), Twinrova (Meryl Streep), Dampé (Steve Buscemi), the Great Fairy (Gemma Chan), and even Tingle (Danny DeVito). Whether getting such a cast together is viable or not is an entirely different matter, but on the face of it, the cast sure looks appealing.Leveille made his firstZeldaposter featuring Holland in September, and seeing his first rendition right next to the more viral one certainly shows how good he’s gotten at using all the AI software, which requires a good amount of trial and error. Now, considering the type of star-studdedcast theSuper Mario Bros. Moviemanagedto bring aboard, maybe this concept is not that far-fetched after all. With the Mario movie coming next year, two solidSonic the Hedgehogfilms, andDetective Pikachubefore them, Nintendo fans have gotten ahead of themselves by making “Smash Bros.initiative memes” for months now.
