Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menacecame out nearly 25 years ago, and for almost as long as Liam Neeson has been asked whether he’d like to have another go at Qui-Gon Jinn. Despite always saying no, in his latest interview, the actor shared his theory of whyStar Warsis not what it used to be.
Besides an unexpected cameo in Disney Plus’Obi-Wan Kenobilast year, Neeson has only reprised the role of Qui-Gon Jinn in a voice acting capacity, appearing in a couple ofStar Warsanimated shows, with hisAttack of the ClonesandRise of Skywalkerrecording being little more than easter eggs. Instead, Neeson has become an action star in recent years, more recently promoting his filmMarlowe. However, this Jedi Master wants everyone to know he has nothing but love forStar Wars.

Neeson’s appearance came in Bravo’sWatch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where he sat alongsideAnt-Man 3star Paul Ruddto hype up their respective films. Yet as far asStar Warsgoes, the Irish actor even looks annoyed when asked if he’d be interested in a Qui-Gon Jinn spinoff, saying, “There’s so many spinoffs of ‘Star Wars.’ It’s diluting it to me, and it’s taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.” While host Andy Cohen seems surprised by the actor’s tone, Neeson fires back that he’s so outspoken about it because he does care a lot forStar Wars.
The entire exchange is quite interesting because regardless of Neeson downplayingtheObi-Wan Kenobicameoas just a couple of lines, he does admit he loved doing that with Ewan McGregor after so many years. These comments will kill all hope of a Qui-Gon Jinn series, though Neeson’s feelings will echo those of manyStar Warsfans. With the possible exception ofThe MandalorianandAndor,Star Warscontent hasn’t been well-received lately.
Right now, Disney seems to be nearing a crossroads that could change how the company handles movies and content for its leading studios, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm. With an abundance of the former, a similar feeling that too muchStar Warsalso exists. This year alone will seeThe Mandalorianseason 3,The Bad Batch,Ahsoka,Skeleton Crew,The Acolyte,Visions, andYoung Jedi Adventuresall land on Disney Plus. However, except Mando, no otherStar Warsspinoff has unanimously won fans' hearts.
TheStar Warssaga is available on Disney Plus.
