Summary

ASkyrimplayer shared a video of their recent encounter with a mammoth that ended when a dragon swooped in and took out the mammoth in pursuit. Following their video post, theSkyrimplayer was asked questions by their peers about how they survived, and a few pointed out the method they used to bait the dragon toward the mammoth.

As one of the many beasts that inhabit Tamriel, the mammoth is a gargantuan foe often found near giant camps out in the wild. The mammoths are notorious for their large bodies and their deceptive agility, which can cause noviceSkyrimplayers to find themselves trampled underfoot. Ergo, both the mammoths and their giant keepers gained a reputation as some ofthe hardest encounters inSkyrimduring the early portions of the game. However, with enough gear and experience, the mammoths can easily be disposed of, and their tusks can be taken and used for completing specific quests.

Though a rampaging mammoth can be a dangerous enemy, the dragons of Skyrim are more than a match for one, as one player demonstrated. A Redditor named Krypt0KusH shared a 29-second video recording on the r/skyrim subreddit of their mammoth encounter in the game. Thoughdragons have been known to take down mammoths, such a sight inSkyrimis not a common occurrence. In the OP’s video, after getting a mammoth’s attention, they quickly turned tail and ran to the east. Fortunately, they were able to kite the mammoth long enough for it to be intercepted by the dragon, who swooped in to tackle it following a few breaths of ice. With its prey weakened, the dragon picked up the mammoth with its claws and dropped it from a lethal height to finish it off.

Strangely enough, the dragon refused to attack the OP, but the OP provided a simple explanation for why that was. In the comments, someSkyrimplayers pointed out that the OP useda mod that allowed them to tame the dragonthat was able to take down the mammoth. The OP said jokingly that snatching and dropping mammoths was a surprise to them as well, and said that any bandits that were in the dragon’s path would have to deal with it themselves.

With plenty of mods that can change the way the game is played and fresh experiences that continue to be discovered, the fifth entry inThe Elder Scrollsseries remains one ofthe most immersive open-world gamesto date. Only time will tell what Bethesda’s plans for the series are in 2024.
