Summary
NetherRealm Studios shared plenty of newMortal Kombat 1information during San Diego Comic-Con, and one content creator in attendance revealed the first set of DLC Kameo Fighters coming to the game following its release. The game’s main roster is set to get some heavy hitters in the post-launch DLC, with the likes ofHomelander and Takedajoining as part of Kombat Pack 1. It appears the Kameo roster is set to get some colorful characters, as well, taken from across the franchise’s roughly 31-year history.
Mortal Kombat 1is the latest entry in the long-running fighting game series and will serve as the second reboot of the universe, the first coming in 2011’sMortal Kombat. Players will get to experience the new timeline constructed by Fire God Liu Kang following his defeat of Kronika inMortal Kombat 11, with familiar characters undergoing drastic changes as a result of this new era. Some of the changes include Raiden becoming a mortal warrior, Tarkat being an illness that mutates the infected into “bloodthirsty monsters,” and the longtime rivals Scorpion and Sub-Zero now being brothers under the Lin Kuei’s banner.

On the gameplay side, one of the biggest additions is set to be Kameo fighters who can be called in to provide assists during a match, with its roster featuring retro-versions ofSonya Blade, Sub-Zero, and Kano to name a few. It was known more would be added to the roster in subsequent DLC releases, and players now know who will be the first additions toMortal Kombat 1thanks to YouTuber UncagedGamez, who was in attendance at NetherRealm’s San Diego Comic-Con panel. He revealed the post-launch Kameo roster additions will be Ferra, Johnny Cage, Khameleon, Mavado, and Tremor.
Johnny Cage may not come as a surprise to some players as the Kameo fighters revealed, as of this writing, features half of the original Mortal Kombat’s roster.Khameleon has also been rumoredto be a Kameo fighter in the game after players speculated she was a background character in the reveal trailer for Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka.
By comparison, the inclusions of Mavado, Tremor, and Ferra continue to highlight the deep cuts NetherRealm has been more than willing to pull from to fill out the main and Kameo rosters. Mavado is the only character of the three to appear in more than one mainlineMortal Kombatgame, those being 2002’sDeadly Allianceand 2006’sArmageddon. Between these three, along with the recently revealed Darius, it wouldn’t be surprising to see players speculate on whatother obscureMortal Kombatcharacterscould find their way to the game’s roster.
Mortal Kombat 1is scheduled to release July 26, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
