Summary

PlayStation announced a newPlayStation 5exclusive,Son and Bone, an action-packed FPS game that sees an American sheriff transported to another world where he must battle dinosaurs to survive. The game will be exclusive to thePlayStation 5and is without an exact release date, but will release sometime in 2024.

There’s always a demand fordinosaur games. While there are already popular dinosaur titles, there aren’t many that take the approach seen inSon and Bone’s trailer. Most popular dinosaur-themed titles are either survival games or simulation games, but surprisingly, there aren’t a whole lot of action-adventure FPS games set in a prehistoric world. TeamKill Media, the group behindSon and Bone, seems to be filling that gap.

PlayStation sharedSon and Bone’s gameplay trailer, which shows two minutes of mayhem as the player blasts their way through a variety of dinosaurs. The game’s description reads, “When a local farm in Patchwork, MT is attacked by a group of notorious bandits, Sheriff Sam Judge sets out to bring them to justice by any means necessary and save the hostage they have taken. But on his journey … Sam finds himself transported to another world overrun with prehistoric creatures, dinosaurs and now must fight for his life to make it back to earth.” In addition to accurate-looking dinosaurs, the PS5 exclusive’s trailer also reveals some sort of humanoid creature that the player must battle against, so the game isn’t taking realism too seriously. The trailer shows that players will use a wide variety of weapons to take part in fast-paced, gory combat.

TeamKill Media’s last game was2023’sQuantum Error, a cosmic horror game that was not well received with a score of 40 on MetaCritic. The American studio is probably hoping to rebound withSon and Bone, and to be fair, the trailer does look promising.

TeamKill Media’sQuantum Errorwas originally meant to be a PlayStation exclusive as well, before its release was adjusted to include Xbox and PC. This time around, it appears thatSon and Bonewill remain a PS5 exclusive.

Son and Boneis a drastic departure from other popular dinosaur games likeArk: Survival EvolvedandPath of Titans. The latter of which is an MMO where players control a dinosaur and must outlast competing players as their creature grows from hatchling to adulthood. Fans of the prehistoric era who enjoy more fast-paced games might find their dinosaur sweet spot withSon and Bone.
