Overwatch 2has temporarily disabled Sigma from competitive play due to a game-breaking bug with his ultimate, which could give some players an unfair advantage and potentially ruin others' fun. Major issues and glitches have plagued the game in recent months, and they seemingly won’t go away any time soon.
SinceOverwatch 2’s initial launch in October 2022, the list of bugs and issues has continued growing, with players voicing frustration over unfair advantages others can gain to ruin their ranked games. Previously, Blizzard removed Mei temporarily after a game-breaking bug with her Ice Wall ability was discovered. Having been added to the game once again, Mei has not caused that kind of serious problem since. Among the heroes disabled due to bugs with their ability kit were Bastion and Torbjorn, who were brought back after a short time.

Overwatch 2players were having issues with Sigma, as a game-breaking bug that allows the hero to fly infinitely was discovered in ranked matches. This bug withSigma’s Ultimate ability inOverwatch 2could seemingly give players an unfair advantage over the opposite team, which paved the way for Blizzard to disabling Sigma in the ranked mode. Though the eccentric tank hero will be missing from ranked play for a short time, he can still be used in unranked and arcade modes.
Overwatch 2Game Director Aaron Keller went on Twitter to announce the removal, saying that Blizzard will provide a new update very soon. Shortly after, a community manager elaborated on the issue via the official forums, suggesting players to use Sigma in unranked and arcade modes, includingOverwatch 2’s Starwatch limited-time mode.
Sigma is a tank hero inOverwatch 2whose powers revolve around his ability to control gravity, allowing players to deal a certain amount of damage and protect themselves with some AoE abilities. He can propel a barrier to any location, and this floating shield is destroyed if it goes out of bounds. There are also a pair of gravitic balls, which bounce off walls to dole out damage to adversaries. More interestingly, Sigma can freeze incoming projectiles to convert them into overhealth. Lastly, his Ultimate launches Sigma into the air and gives a circular targeting area, in which enemies are lifted into the air and knocked back down if Gravitic Flux is activated.
Blizzard regularly brings new content and gameplay changes with major updates to keep players engaged, but some of them cause serious bugs and issues that prevent players from enjoying the game. Some examples of this are anunusual bug that bans anOverwatch 2playerfor the entirety of Season 4 and a recently discovered map bug that causes players to die as soon as they leave the spawn point. Hopefully, the issues with his ultimate will be ironed out as quickly as possible and players won’t have to wait long to utilize Sigma in their ranked matches.
Overwatch 2is now available to play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
