Overwatch 2is making some sweeping changes to the hero-shooter game, and because it shares its PvP with the firstOverwatch, that means the original game is facing serious changes as well. The biggest change will be the drop from six players per team to just five, which will have massive consequences for theOverwatchmetaand is requiring Blizzard to seriously rework some of the characters on the roster.
SinceOverwatch 2is sharing PvP with the firstOverwatch, it means that the firstOverwatchis going to incorporate these changes well. So changes like the massive Bastion rework will apply to both the firstOverwatchgame and its sequel, which poses a significant problem for completionists. These changes will potentially make it impossible or nearly impossible for someOverwatch 1players to unlock certain achievements and trophies in the game, in turn locking them out of some of the cosmetics that come along with those unlocks as well.

Blizzard hasn’t revealed all of the character changes coming inOverwatch 2, but the drop from six to five players per team is already going to make some of the achievements and trophies in the first game difficult to unlock. And now that we know what theBastion rework inOverwatch 2entails, we know that it will indeed lock players out of unlocking one of the robot character’s achievements/trophies once the new game launches.
Bastion Charge! Achievement/Trophy
Bastion has an achievement/trophy inOverwatchcalled Charge! that requires him to kill four enemies with a single use of his Configuration: Tank Ultimate attack. The problem with this inOverwatch 2is that Bastion will no longer have the Configuration: Tank Ultimate. The BastionOverwatch 2rework ischanging Configuration: Tank to Configuration: Artillery, which is a completely different attack.
Unless Blizzard makes some kind of change to the achievement inOverwatch 1, it will mean anyone that hasn’t unlocked it yet will be locked out of doing so onceOverwatch 2launches and the Bastion rework goes into effect. And that’s a problem that could very well extend to other characters in the game. Blizzard has teasedotherOverwatchcharacters are getting reworkswhenOverwatch 2launches, but just has yet to provide details on how those changes will work.
On the flip side, it seems that some of these reworks will actually make getting certainOverwatch 1achievements a little easier. For example,Sombra is getting a huge buff with her reworkthat should make her Hack the Planet achievement/trophy (to hack 15 enemies without dying in Quick or Competitive Play) much easier to unlock.
Until Blizzard reveals all of the character reworks coming inOverwatch 2, it’s hard to say just how far-reaching these achievement/trophy issues inOverwatch 1will be. Anyone that’s interested in unlocking all of the game’s achievements and trophies should make it a point to do so soon, as it may be too late onceOverwatch 2’s release datefinally comes around.
