However, PlayStation’s 2021 was a bit bottom heavy, with its big games originally meant for later in the year pushed back to 2022. 2021’s loss is 2022’s gain, though, and now PlayStation is set up to have an absolutely incredible year.

PlayStationhas not revealed the full scope of the console exclusive games it will have on offer in 2022, but even without knowing everything that’s on the way, fans already have a lot to look forward to. Numerous console exclusive games have already been confirmed for release later this year, some with solid release dates and others with vague release windows, ranging from big budget triple-A games to smaller indie releases.

PlayStation Exclusive Games 2022

The first PlayStation console exclusive release of 2022 isUncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collectionon January 28. A PlayStation 5 port ofUncharted 4: A Thief’s EndandUncharted: The Lost Legacy,Legacy of Thieves Collectionwill come with some additional bells and whistlesto make it worthwhile for PS5 gamers. The collection is also going to make its way to PC at some point in 2022, though a specific release date for that version of the game has yet to be announced.

Being able to relive Nathan Drake’s final adventure on PS5 is no doubt going to be appealing to many PlayStation fans, but others may be more concerned with brand new adventures. Luckily, they don’t have to wait too long into 2022 to play a completely original game. February 8 will see therelease ofSifuon PS4 and PS5, a PlayStation console exclusive martial arts game with a unique gimmick. InSifu, dying ages the player character, eventually resulting in a permanent game over.

Then February 18 will see the release of the long-awaitedHorizon Forbidden West, the sequel to the critically-acclaimed PS4 exclusiveHorizon Zero Dawn.Horizon Forbidden Westwill feature protagonist Aloy exploring new locations and battling a variety of new machines. It will be available for both PS4 and PS5, withHorizon Forbidden Westgameplaylooking especially impressive in the PS5 version of the game.

March will see a couple of PlayStation console exclusives release, withBabylon’s Falldropping March 3 andGran Turismo 7releasing a day later on March 4.Babylon’s Fallis an action-RPGdeveloped by PlatinumGames and Square Enix, whereasGran Turismo 7is the latest entry in Sony’s long-running racing game franchise. TheGran Turismogames have been pretty consistently high-quality experiences, and so the bar is quite high forGT7, which will have both PS4 and PS5 versions available for fans to check out.

The last PS5 console exclusive with a specific release date for 2022 isForspoken, which is another console exclusive published by Square Enix.Forspokenis going to be available on PC and PlayStation 5 onlywhen it launches on May 24, and it looks like it could be one of the more impressive games in the lineup.

Other PlayStation console exclusives confirmed for 2022 are currently without specific release dates, so it will be interesting to see if they are released in the first half of the year or if fans have to wait until later in 2022 to get their hands on them. In any case, theBethesda-publishedGhostwire: Tokyoshould be one of the first released, as it’s currently scheduled for a Q1 or Q2 launch. It’s the latest game from Tango Gameworks andResident Evilcreator Shinji Mikami, so there’s quite a bit of hype behind it.

And of course, PlayStation gamers will get to playGod of War: Ragnarokin 2022 as well. LikeHorizon Forbidden West,God of War: Ragnarokwas meant to launch in 2021 before its release date was pushed back to an undetermined point in 2022. Fans are still waiting on an official release date for the game, but regardless it’s set to be the premiere PlayStation exclusive of the year. The 2018God of Wargame was critically-acclaimed and hailed as one of the best video games ever made, and withGod of War: Ragnarokcapping off the Norse saga, chances are it will be incredible, too. Gamers on both PS4 and PS5 will get to check it out as it’s another cross-gen release.

PlayStation fans also havesmaller games likeGoodbye Volcano High,Stray, andTchiato look forward to in 2022 as well. But while these games may not be quite as over-the-top as some of the other PlayStation console exclusives scheduled for 2022, they all have potential to be some of the more compelling video game experiences of the year. PlayStation fans will just have to wait and see how they turn out, but expectations are high.

Multiplatform PS4 and PS5 Games for 2022

This is by no means a comprehensive list of all the multiplatform games launching for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022, but it does highlight some of the bigger releases. There are numerous high profile multiplatform PS4 and PS5 games that already have release dates, withRainbow Six Extractionlaunching January 20 followed byDying Light 2 Stay Humanon February 4.Elden Ringon February 25will be an absolutely massive release for the industry at large, with hype incredibly high for FromSoftware’s upcoming open world game.

March will have some notable game releases as well, withStranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Originserving as a Souslike take on theFFfranchise on March 18 followed byBorderlandsspin-offTiny Tina’s Wonderlandson March 25. TheSaints Rowreboot is coming on August 23, and then many of the other multiplatform PS4 and PS5 games on the way for 2022 are currently without concrete release dates.

While it’s entirely possible some of these games will get delayed and pushed back to 2023, it’s also possible that they will all meet their 2022 release windows. If so, then 2022 is going to be truly massive for the PlayStation brand. Based on the multiplatform PS4 and PS5 releases scheduled for the year and the PlayStation console exclusives on the way, it’s clear that 2022 is going to be massive for PlayStation. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. PlayStation has yet to reveal everything that it’s releasing in 2022, with fans having to tune in to PlayStation State of Plays to learn more. There’s even a chance that thePlayStation VR 2 hardwarewill drop this year, so there should be no shortage of things for PlayStation fans to look forward to in the months ahead.
