Summary
One dedicatedPokemonfan has managed to do the unthinkable and capture all 1,010 Pokemon that were available in the games prior to The Teal Mask DLC. The slogan of Nintendo’s beloved monster-training JRPG series is “gotta catch ‘em all,” a directive that has driven legions of players to dive into the vastPokemonworld in search of elementally empowered critters to collect, raise, and trade with fellow fans. Each game gives the playera single Starter Pokemon, but from there it falls to them to travel across the various regions to hunt for all the other Pokemon in the franchise.
This task is easier said than done, as each newPokemonsequel adds a host of creatures to go along with the ones from past generations. What started as a modest assortment of 150 monsters in the originalPokemon Red and Bluehas grown into a gargantuan list of 1,010 across nine generations - to say nothing ofthe rare Shiny Pokemonand regional variants that have been introduced in later years. As such, managing to capture every Pokemon and complete the Pokedex is seen as a high achievement that very few have realized.

The aptly-named Reddit user Original-Childhood has managed to do exactly that, capturing all 1,010 Pokemon and sharing a screenshot of their achievement on r/pokemon. Just likethePokemonanime protagonist Ash Ketchum, catching every Pokemon has been a longtime dream for Original-Childhood, who started working on this goal after buying a Nintendo 3DS 10 years ago. Other users have congratulated Original-Childhood for their achievement, even as the number of Pokemon has just increased once again with the release ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s new The Teal MaskDLC.
This expansion is the first ofScarlet and Violet’s The Hidden Treasure of AreaDLC pass, and takes players to a new location called Kitakami - which is home to a host of new Pokemon for players to add to their collection. These includethe new Legendary Ogerpon, a candy-coated evolution for Applin named Dipplin, and a trio of Loyal Pokemon protectors who are said to have guarded Kitakami in the ancient past. Even more new Pokemon will come in The Indigo Disk, the second DLC chapter that will be released this winter.
These new additions further signify that the quest to become a truePokemonmaster is never-ending, but at least Original-Childhood can say that they managed to gather the 1,010 creatures that came before them. As other players have pointed out, catching the new Pokemon introduced inScarlet and Violet’s DLC will be much easier now that Original-Childhood has filled out the rest of the Pokedex, so it probably won’t be long before their collection is complete once again.
