ThePokemonfranchise currently boasts almost 900 totalPokemon. For even the most dedicatedPokemontrainers, that’s a lot to collect, but one fan has undertaken an even more ambitious goal of creating amigurumi—stuffed crochet plushies—of all existing Pokemon.
WhilePokemonhas been popular since its inception, the franchise had itsmost profitable year everlast year, and this year also happens to mark the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Due to its persistent popularity, new Pokemon are steadily being added to the roster as new games and updates are released. Even since starting their project at the end of last year, PatternsByJazz has already seen the number of total Pokemon increase by 6.

PatternsByJazz’s project is yet anotherfeel-goodPokemonstory. According to the creator’s Ko-fi page, the plan is to either give all the plushies directly to a charity or to give the plushies to supporters in exchange for monetary donations to charity. In order to cover the cost of yarn needed to create each amigurumi, PatternsByJazz has also opened an Etsy shop where they sell the patterns to each of the crochet plushies, meaning that fans with enough knitting skill could create their own.
Currently, PatternsByJazz has created amigurumi of Mew, Jigglypuff, Squirtle, Staryu, Gengar, and plenty more, with their latest creation being Teddiursa. While the order may seem random at first glance, the creator of the project has taken to polling fans for which Pokemon they would like to see next. This means that it could be a long while before fans see the more typical Pokemon that already are available as plushies like Blastoise or Charizard—whose holographic,base set card recently went for over $300,000. It should also excite fans to imagine some of the stranger Pokemon like Klefki, Muk, or Klink that seem to present obvious challenges when being transformed into amigurumi.
If PatternsByJazz can achieve their goal of crocheting every single Pokemon, it will be quite a feat. Just recently, anotherPokemonfan managed to achieve the unthinkable byfilling out their Pokedexby catching every single available Pokemon in every singlePokemongame available. With such a monumental task ahead, and almost 900 Pokemon currently in the queue, the project could theoretically be at close to 1000 total Pokemon by the time all is said and done, with over 2 years left on the project even if a crochet Pokemon is created every single day, not accounting for design and gathering materials.
