December 2020 marked the fifth anniversary ofRainbow Six: Siege, the latest entry in the tactical shooter series. Many fans eagerly await the franchise’s next installment,Rainbow Six: Quarantine, which was first announced during E3 2019. Since then,Quarantinehas been delayed again and again, with little to no other news about it.

This is particularly concerning for existing fans of the franchise.Quarantineis already a major departure from the series' roots, with this title centering around cooperatively shooting hordes of zombie-like enemies (à laLeft 4 Dead).  With the future of theRainbow Sixseries on the line, players from around the world are holding their breaths as they wait to see whetherQuarantinewill meet these expectations.

10We Want: A Single-Player Story

Fans of the series have been looking forward to a new single-player experience for a long time.Rainbow Six: Siegereleased as a multiplayer-only title, making 2008’sVegas 2the last game in the franchise to have a story mode.

As fans may know,Ubisoft has statedthatQuarantinewill havea co-op campaign (hopefully it’ll be a fantastic experience with fellow players), but it’s still unknown whether the campaign can be played alone or if it will include a fully-fledged story. Players will no doubt have to keep waiting until more is known about this game.

9We Do Not Want: A Generic Open-World Experience

Much-storied developer and publisherUbisoftis well-known for its open-world sandbox games, likeAssassin’s Creed,Watch Dogs, andGhost Recon. Yet some fans are tired of seeing the same style of gameplay applied to their favorite franchises, and they are worriedQuarantinewill suffer the same fate as the publisher’s other series.

This sort of change may seem unlikely for this title, but Ubisoft has successfully turned all their other franchises intovast, open-world games,so it’s not that much of a stretch. Fortunately for those who enjoy less daunting titles, nothing Ubisoft has shown thus far indicates an open-world campaign.

8We Want: Next Gen Support On Launch

WhenQuarantinewas first announced, all promotional information said the game would arrive on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. Since then, the next generation of consoles has been released. Ubisoft has said that the game will release on next-generation consoles, but it’s unknown whether this will happen at launch or if it will be ported over later.

Many gamers around the world are quickly upgrading their consoles to get the newest and best games, so Ubisoft’s title will beburied under the early competition on these systemsif it doesn’t come out on the Xbox Series X and Playstation 5. Hopefully, though, the delays will allow Ubisoft to release the next installment of theRainbow Sixseries on next-generation consoles at launch.

7We Do Not Want: Microtransactions

Microtransactions have become a major part of the video game industry, and many players have slowly gotten used to them. Yet some games still release with egregious monetization models, making even the most accepting of fans upset.

As of yet, Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed the existence of microtransactions, yet players expect to find some in the form of weapon skins and other cosmetics — similar to those inRainbow Six: Siege. Gamers hope that microtransactions only extend to cosmetics and do not give in-game advantages, lock away fan-favorite operators or seal off important maps and game modes.

6We Want: Returning Operators

Rainbow Six: Siegelaunched with the idea of operators — unique player-characters with their own personalities and gameplay styles. Over time, these characters have found a place in players' hearts andmany fans have grown attached to their favorite operators.

That’s why players hope to see the operators return in the upcoming installment, as they want to continue playing as their customary characters. So far, Ubisoft has only confirmed a small handful of the operators, with two appearing inthe game’s teaser. Fans, however, are hoping to see the whole cast return in the co-op shooter.

5We Do Not Want: Recycled Content

Quarantinewas inspired by theOutbreakevent inRainbow Six: Siege. This temporary mode won over the fanbase and players began to demand more from the developers. Ubisoft was quick to seize the opportunity and announcedRainbow Six: Quarantineas its own stand-alone title.

This came as great news to a lot of fans. Even so, some are still concerned that Ubisoft will recycle content fromSiege, without innovating or adding enough to the game to make it stand out on its own. Only time will tell how differentQuarantinewill be.

4We Want: Gameplay Variety

Many fans look forward toQuarantine, and they want to play the game for years on end — much likeSiegebefore it. That’s why fans want the game to launch with a lot of gameplay variety to keep them excited for a long time.

Players want the title to release with more enemy variants and maps than the originalOutbreakevent, as this will greatly improve the title’s replay value. They also want Ubisoft to continuously support the game by adding new maps, weapons, and enemies to keep players returning.

3We Do Not Want: A Rushed Release

The recent release ofCyberpunk 2077was a massive shock to players around the world, for its sheer quantity of bugs and unfinished content. Fans were furious at the rushed state of the game and the studio received major backlash for it.

Players hopeCyberpunk’s troubled launchwill be a warning to other studios, forcing publishers to delay a game’s release to guarantee it launches in a finished state. This is especially true for theRainbow Sixfranchise, as the previous entry,Siege, released in a poor state with limited content.

2We Want: PvP

Fans of the game have expressed their desire to see more than just co-op gameplay. Many hope thatQuarantinewill release with some sort of PvP mode, allowing gamers to fight each other in addition to the zombie-like creatures of the game.

This could come in the form of having two competing teams fight off both each other and the hordes of AI monsters. Or it could be similar toHalo’s infection mode, with dead players returning to kill their former companions.

1We Do Not Want: Another Roadmap

The likes ofAnthem,Marvel’s Avengers, andGhost Recon: Breakpointare all PvE games that released in a sorry state, later promising to make up for the lack of content with a roadmap. So far, none of these titles have managed to live up to their pre-launch hype, making some players sick of roadmaps teasing content that was supposed to be in the game from the very beginning.

Fans desperately hope thatQuarantinereleases in a better state than all these titles, and that Ubisoft will not rely on a roadmap to make up for a sorry launch.
