Summary
Rockstar Games' flagshipGTA Online-focused subscription service, GTA+, is receiving a price hike with no formal announcement. This news is likely to make fans ofGrand Theft Auto Onlinewho were already critical of the service even less pleased with it.
GTA+ was introduced in March 2022 as a membership program forGTA Onlineplayers exclusively on the next-gen consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The service provides a number of monthly in-game perks, in addition to some persistent benefits for all members as well. Most of these perks consist of things such as free cosmetics, bonus in-game currency, discounts on vehicles and weapons, faster taxi services, exclusive locations to explore, and member-only Shark Cards. The release of the service has left a sour taste in a lot of fans' mouths, in large part because additional monetization of adecade-old game likeGrand Theft Auto 5has rubbed some people the wrong way. Now, it seems like Rockstar is taking this monetization a step further by increasing the price of the divisive service.

As first reported by Rockstar Intel, GTA+ is getting a price hike of $2 USD per month on both Xbox and PlayStation. This means that the service, which initially cost $5.99 each month, now costs $7.99. This price increase will become effective beginning on July 06, 2025. There was no official explanation orcomment from Rockstar Gamesregarding this price hike. Rather, it was simply spotted on the official Xbox and PlayStation storefronts.
Rockstar Has Been Adding Some of Its Back Catalog to GTA+
With how frequently they have been occurring recently, price increases for subscription services should come as no surprise nowadays. Just a few days prior to this unfortunate news, EA announced thatEA Play will be getting more expensive soonwith a similar $1-2 dollar monthly price hike. Back in 2023, meanwhile, both Microsoft and Sony revealed significant price increases for their own subscription services - Game Pass and PlayStation Plus - which increased in price up to 35%. Ubisoft and Nintendo are some of the only major companies so far who have yet to announce price hikes for their own subscription services in the past year.
As for GTA+ itself, Rockstar has, at the very least, been trying to boost the service’s value in recent months. Most notably of all,Rockstar has added some older games to GTA+. Titles likeGrand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition,GTA: Liberty City Stories,GTA: Chinatown Wars, andRed Dead Redemptionhave been included as part of the subscription service so far, withL.A. NoireandBullyarriving later this year. Though the service is bound to receive backlash from fans for this price hike, additional perks like these in addition to theGTA Onlineones may be enough to convince some fans to continue renewing their memberships instead of canceling them outright.
