WithSkyrimcoming up on its tenth anniversary later this year, many fans will be waiting for some form of celebratory content to come from the Bethesda camp. In the meantime though, talented gamers are more than capable of entertaining themselves, as one Redditor has shown by creating an incredible handcraftedSkyrimshield.

As with many Bethesda titles,Skyrimoffers a plethora of fan-made content to enjoy across a multitude of different mediums. There are numerous mods, detailed cosplays, and recreations of all manner of things from the world ofThe Elder Scrolls, likeSkyrim’sDaedric Warhammer for instance. Many of the game’s weapons and armors have become iconic for gamers, and being able to see them reconstructed in the real world has become a way for many to express their fandom.

In the case of Redditor ‘mayor_mc_cheese,’ the inspiration came while he was holed up at home with a shoulder injury, and was enjoying Nordic romps throughAssassin’s Creed ValhallaandSkyrim. McCheese took a particular liking toSkyrim’sshield designs, and having the suitable skills, set to work on creating a shield in the style of the game’s Hold Guard’s shields. Although the shield is missing the iron band around the outside, McCheese’s creation is beautifully made, with the same painted gradient asSkyrim’sshields and a homemade charm that is always welcome in fan creations.

The shield is emblazoned with theSkyrimlogo, and while one Redditor joked that the shield was made from the fence behind McCheese in the photo he posted, the wooden planks certainly give it a unique aesthetic. What’s more is that according to McCheese, the shield is “ready for any Convention, Halloween, or role playing,” as it comes complete with “two large handles/bars on the back” in order for the user to comfortably grip the shield for long periods of time. McCheese is also in the process of taking requests for specific in-game shields to recreate and could potentially begin selling them to the public, perhaps helpingSkyrimcosplayers create authentic Nordic looks.

It’s always impressive to see what fans are able to recreate for their favorite games, whether it’s simplyrecreating characters from other games inSkyrim, or reconstructing in-game items into tangible, real-world objects. There is certainly a specific joy in seeing things come to life and being able to wield something entirely fantastical, and recreations like this always make a strong case for Bethesda to step in and create some official replicas of their own, perhaps as a way to commemorate the tenth anniversary ofSkyrim.

Skyrimis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
