Sons of the Forestis the sequel toThe Forest, a popular survival game in which the players have to survive on an island full of monstrous cannibals after a plane crash. Unlike its predecessor, however, which took around four years to release its 1.0 version,Sons of the Forestmanaged to do it in a single year.
Now, developer Endnight Games hasreleased the 1.0 update forSons of the Forest, and it’s a game-changer. The update is huge and touches on essentially all aspects of the experience in some way. While the early access version of the game already had the complete storyline, the update adds an alternative ending, as well as five new cutscenes, and some more bits of lore spread around the world. Due to these changes, Endnight Games recommends players start a new save file to play, as they may miss out on new content if they use an older file.
From the hundreds of changes made toSons of the Forestwith the update, a few stand out. The 1.0 version of the game will add two new mutants: Legsy and Holey, as well as a new sickness system, more caves, items, achievements, and much more. There are also several improvements to the game’s performance, audio, interface, and gameplay, including support for AMD’s FSR3 technology. Even some systems that were already in an advanced state, such as thedynamic weather system inSons of the Forest, have also been improved with a new occlusion system for buildings. After the 1.0 update,Sons of the Forestwill likely continue to receive upgrades that will improve it in several ways. However, this is undeniably an excellent starting point for newcomers.
Overall,2024 has been an excellent year for survival games. Not onlySons of the Forestis getting its full release, but popular likes such asPalworld,Enshrouded, andNightingalehave all been released in the first two months of the year. With the upcoming release ofARK 2, as well as these games, it’s fair to say that fans of the genre won’t be lacking exciting games to play this year.
