Since EA confirmed thatStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderis the beginning of a game franchise, it’s only a matter of time for when a new game drops. There’s a lot of questions about a potential sequel, such asif Cal Kestis is stillJedi: Fallen Order’s protagonist, when it would take place, and what the overarching story could follow, but the fact that is indeed happening is enough for many fans.
However, it’s likely to be a next-gen PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X game, given that the original just released in fall of last year. While this means fans have a wait on their hands, it also means thatStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2can utilize the full power of next-gen hardware. Specifically, it’ll be interesting to see what the game could do with The Force.

The SSD and the Force
With the PS5 and Xbox Series X moving forward with an SSD, there’s a lot of new elements that can come into games. Fans needn’t look any further thanRatchet and Clank: Rift Apartto see how powerful the PS5 is, for example, as opening and manipulating that many portals in game would be trying on current-gen consoles. And while the Force isn’t exactly about opening a bunch of portals, it’ll allow Respawn Entertainment to make the most of the hardware and perhaps even push the power fantasy further.
One thing thatThe Force Unleashedwas both praised and criticized for was its use of the Force. Starkiller simply did things that would not be possible of a Jedi, such as bringing down a Star Destroyer. Theoretically, though, this broke no rules of the Force, as it is the Force he manipulated, not the ship. While it deserves its skepticism nonetheless, there’s no denying the raw power fantasy of bringing down a Destroyer in such a manner.
Because of this,Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2has the capabilities to milk the Force for all it’s worth, showing the raw power of the protagonist in a way that no console before could. Whether that’s a mechanic to reflect multiple enemy with a big, powerful, and centered Force repulsion, to unleash Force Lightning (if asequel allows for the dark side of the Forceto be used) on dozens of targets, or to quickly use the Force to push and pull a multitude of falling objects, like rocks.
Truly, the sky’s the limit with the potential of the Force andnext-gen SSD. It may be a pipe dream, but a fight likeKingdom Heart’s 2 1000-Heartless Battle where instead Cal used an insane amount of Force powers to fight and wade through 100s of enemies would be something that brilliantly experimented with the Force and played into the power fantasy ofStar Wars. Of course, it remains to be seen whatStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2is capable of, but how far the franchise could theoretically go with the Force is awe-inspiring.
