Bethesda’sStarfieldis an epic-scale sci-fi RPG with an expansive cast of characters populating its various factions and is filled with memorable and unique characters fit for a space-age adventure. True to form, Bethesda has created dozens of characters across the various factions who are memorable for one reason or another - whether that’s a good reason like giving the player cool stuff, or a bad reason like being an evil interstellar scourge.

From its collection of followers to its quest-related NPCs and general background characters,Starfieldhas something to offer everyone. Its United Colonies faction is no different, featuring characters that span the range from ‘very annoying’ to ‘actually pretty cool’.

Starfield War Relics Kaiser

10Kaiser

A Missed Opportunity For A Player Companion

Kaiser, a military robot created to help the Red Devils during the Colony War, is a fantastic addition to the roster of UC NPCs. This is a robot with personality, and it’s not only a good shot - it’s also good at science, too. Present during the UC faction quest, Kaiser has been working non-stop since the Colony War to fulfill its primary directive.

The worst thing about Kaiser is that it can’t become a player companion which is a missed opportunity.

Starfield Sergeant Yumi

9Sergeant Yumi

An Early Quest Giver With Easy Tasks

Sergeant Yumi is a UC Security officer who can be encountered very early on duringStarfieldand offers the player a nice little string ofgreat early-game missions.Yumi is a solid character, very normal, which can be refreshing in a game likeStarfieldwith its crazy space pirates, deadly alien monsters, and eccentric personalities.

Not only that, but Sergeant Yumi’s missions are easy enough to do, and can even point players towards the UC faction quest if they haven’t engaged in other missions like the main story.

Captain Myeong

8Captain Myeong

A Character Who Sees Past Historical Rivalries

Captain Myeong is a UC Marine and a Veteran of the deadly Colony War where the United Colonies fought against the Freestar Collective in a bitter, vicious battle over territorial and colony rights. So she has every reason not to trust anyone from the Freestar Collective, let alone its peacekeeping force.

Fortunately for everyone involved, when Myeong and her men found trouble against Spacers duringthe Groundpounder mission,Myeong didn’t let history repeat itself. Instead, she was willing to work with the Freestar soldiers to get everyone to safety and send the Spacers retreating - with the help of Constellation’s number one problem solver, of course.

7Commander John Tuala

The Iconic Spokesperson Of The UC Vanguard

Encountered early on duringStarfield’smain story, Commander John Tuala is a recruiter for the UC Vanguard and an old acquaintance of Constellation head, Sarah Morgan. Tuala is keen to get the player involved with the UC in an official way, and he offers a nice route into the UC faction missions.

The UC faction quest line comes with access to some hefty upgrades to ship weapons and other parts too, ones that can be used on A-class ships. Definitely an NPC worth checking out early on in the game, and he seems like a pretty nice guy, too.

Denis Averin

6Denis Averin

A Quirky Vendor Who Stands Out From The Rest

An extremely useful vendor in Cydonia on Mars, Denis Averin is an eccentric character with an unusual accent and a little chain of side quests that can be quite lucrative for the player character. A purveyor of fine goods and weapons at the UC Exchange, Denis Averin is also involved in some naughtier exploits along the lines of smuggling and trading in aggressively obtained merchandise.

Denis offers a neat window into a view of different cultures in the world ofStarfield, and his utility to the player makes him one of the more important UC NPCs. There must be something in the water on Cydonia since it’s got anotherfan-favorite vendor NPC.

Moara Otero

5Moara Otero

A Possible Crew Member Looking To Change His Life

Moara Otero is a potential crew member and follower, and also a member of the UC Vanguard. Otero is encountered very early on during the game’s main quest after having found an Artifact. Otero is stationed in Earth’s solar system on patrol, a thankless task resented by most officers, but chosen by Otero thanks to growing up on Mars. But by the time the player encounters him, he’s tired out and looking for something new to do.

And fortunately, the player can choose to offer him just that. Otero will then become a very earlynew follower character, someone players can use if none of the available Constellation options are appealing. But even if he isn’t taken along on journeys, he can stay on the ship to provide useful bonuses.

4Kibwe Ikande

The Tough Face Of UC SysDef

Commander Kibwe Ikande is an interesting character because he has two different ways he can be introduced to the player. In one, he’s a distrusting authority figure forcing a captured criminal into an undercover sting op against the Crimson Fleet. Players who encounter Ikande in this way often have nothing good to say, but in the other route, players are given the option to begin working undercover with UC SysDef as part of the United Colonies Faction quest line.

But Ikande’s actually a pretty good guy who just really, really hates (space) pirates. Whatever the player’s choice regarding these faction quests, Ikande is a big part of it, and it’s interesting to see how the character develops over time.

3Hadrian Sanon

Soldier, Scientist, Clone, Companion

A decorated veteran of war, Hadrian Sanon is a potential companion character to the player and plays a big role in one part of the UC faction quest such as inmissions like Eyewitness.Hadrian has a complex past, being a clone of a high-ranking UC general and part of a shady program to train leaders and soldiers of the future.

And in Hadrian’s case, it definitely worked, as she’s a skilled soldier and a talented scientist with a history enmeshed in the UC - and many of its blunders and mistakes. As a character, Hadrian is interesting, and she’s got some great lines, making her one of the better UC NPCs.

should you reveal vae victis secret in starfield

2Francois Sanon / Vae Victis

General, War Criminal, Mastermind Extraordinaire

Francois Sanon, also known as Vae Victis, has a complicated past. A decorated UC officer and a war criminal, Vae Victis is an interesting character because of his many contradictions. Loyal to the UC, Sanon wants to protect it - but his methods are questionable at best.

Responsible for a lot of bad stuff in thesetting’s history and loreand even its modern-day, Sanon is also the ‘father’ of Hadrian Sanon, providing the DNA for her cloning.

starfield sarah morgan

1Sarah Morgan

The Player’s Boss, But Cooler

Sarah Morgan is a great character, one who can accompany players through the vast majority of their journey throughStarfield. The leader of Constellation, Sarah Morgan is also a decorated UC veteran of the Colony War, a former leader of a now-defunct UC group, and a potential romance option for the player.

Sarah has a great character arc and good responsiveness to the game’s quests and events, making her a great choice of companion. Present for much of the main quest in one way or another, Sarah offers a UC perspective on events tinged with her own personality and beliefs.
