Summary

Super Mario RPGhas once again whisked players away on an adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom, but this time it has brought along a few new faces. While players will encounter all sorts of familiar characters and enemies during their journey, they will also be introduced to two more characters that could become their new favorites. These characters may have cropped up in the originalSuper Mario RPGas well, but they have yet to make an appearance in anything else, and that needs to change.

Alongside Mario and Peach, players will get tomeet the adorable Genoand Mallow. Both characters prove to be vital inSuper Mario RPG, yet neither have really been able to do anything more. Specifically, these two characters have never had a prominent role in any Nintendo ensemble game. They have not been able to race inMario Kart, mess around inMario Party, or fight their way to victory inSuper Smash Bros. And even though it may be too late to add them to past games, they deserve to shine in future ones.

Super Mario RPG’s Characters Deserve a Place In Other Games

Super Mario RPG Has Introduced a New Cast of Characters

InSuper Mario RPG, players are quickly introduced tothe hilarious cloud Mallow. Originally, he thinks that he is a tadpole and is the grandson of the Frog Sage, which Mario hardly believes. In actuality, he is the de jure prince of Nimbus Land who lends his aid to Mario throughout the story. While he may not be the strongest, his magic can devastate enemies.

As players progress throughSuper Mario RPG, they will be introduced to the possessed wooden doll Geno. He is warrior from the Star Road who was sent by a higher power to assist Mario in restoring peace to his world. So, he joins the crew, and lends his strength in battle. He is a powerful ally in these fights, and some fans even consider him to bethe bestSuper Mario RPGcharacter. But even with that popularity, he seems to have been left behind.

The Nintendo Ensemble Games Could Benefit From New Faces

Nintendo may bring all sorts of different characters from across its library to its ensemble games, but for some reason it has never let these two characters have prominent roles in anything else.Super Mario RPGwas a critically acclaimed game, so it would make sense that Nintendo would capitalize on it by making these characterscore parts of the Mushroom Kingdom cast. However, the most that they got to be was simple easter eggs or background characters.

Both Geno and Mallow have only made small appearances in other games throughout the years. Mallow got to appear as a spirit in the form of a white-colored Robin inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateas well as in the background ofTetris 99. Geno has had a few more appearances, but he has also been relegated to background status. His biggest role was probably his brief cameo appearance inMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Along with that, he was a costume inSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, a spirit and costume inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, and in the background ofTetris 99. While it is nice to see both of them get some recognition, they deserve so much more.

The release ofSuper Mario RPGhas brought these characters back to the forefront, which makes it the perfect time to capitalize on them. They should be able to play prominent roles in the nextMario Party, Mario Kart,Super Smash Bros. or even something as simple asMario Tennis. Since they are so important in this game, they at least should get to join the ensemble game fun once. If anything, there should at least be aSuper Mario RPG-themedlocale to explore.
