Summary
It seems like the consensus is high surrounding rumors about how Nintendo is going to launch the successor to theSwitchin 2024. If there is one thing fans can count on it is Nintendo’s unpredictability. Who would have thought they would go from the GameCube to the Wii to the Wii U? Whatever it’s going to be called, the clock is ticking on games still not out on Switch. Will these missing games ever show up on the console, or will they wait for the Switch 2? Answers could be coming soon thanks to upcoming shows like Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show.
8Deltarune
Toby Fox collectively changed the Internet and the gaming scene whenhe releasedUndertalein 2015. To call it a phenomenon would be an understatement. His next project,Deltarune, began with a surprise release of the first chapter in 2018.
Things went dark and then Chapter 2 popped up in 2021. Is chapter 3 going to come out soon, or will the full game be out next? It’s been five years since development began and eight years sinceUndertalelaunched. The fans are certainly starting to get restless at this point without any concrete news.

7Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remakeis the project title for the game, but probably won’t be the final name. It was announced in 2021 along with a plethora of otherDragon Questnews to celebrate the 35th anniversary in Japan.
Dragon Quest 12, for example, was also teased during this presentation.Dragon Quest 3HD-2D Remakehas not been seen since, but fans shouldn’t worry.The HD-2D teamwithin Square Enix has been hard at work on several projects including 2023’sOctopath Traveler 2.

6Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hollow Knight: Silksongwas going to be DLC for the original 2017 game. In 2019, Team Cherry announced with a gameplay trailer thatHollow Knight: Silksongwas going to be a standalone release. Technically, it has surfaced since then.

Last year there was a short teaser with a lot of the same footage announcing it was going to be onXbox Game Pass. No date was given, meaning that Switch users are still in the dark. It’s probably one of the most anticipated upcoming indie game sequels, so it had to make the list even though it’s a bit of a stretch.
5Metal Slug Tactics
Metal Slughas stuck primarily to one genre. They were great run-and-gun shooters in the arcades and in 2021, it looked like the series was going to take an interesting detour on consoles.Metal Slug Tacticsis going to be a tactical RPG and it had one heck of a gameplay trailer in 2021.
It’s been absent in media since, but the developer, Dotemu, has put out two games in the meantime. Last year it wasTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revengeand this year they helped makeMight & Magic: Clash of Heroes: Definitive Edition. Maybe those two games have been holding Dotemu up, even with just publishing.

4Metroid Prime 4
Metroid Prime 4was announced in 2017 which was the launch year of the Switch. Also in that year, Nintendo announced and releasedMetroid: Samus Returnson the 3DS. Since then two other games have come out in the series:Metroid DreadandMetroid Prime Remastered.
Despite the influx of games,Metroid Prime 4has not been shown beyond a title once. Some seem to think that the game is going to be a launch title for the successor to the Switch but those are just rumors for now.

3Samurai Gunn 2
Samurai Gunn 2, a fighting game similar toTowerFall Ascension, was teased for the Switch in 2018. It has since received numerous trailers on other platforms, been showcased at trade events in a playable state, and even went into Early Access on Steam in 2021.

Those following the game probably know this, but Switch fans probably forgot about its existence since it last appeared in 2018. Its release into Early Access is a good sign that things are going well. Sometimes games can be in there for years if not decades and time is running out for the Switch audience.
2SteamWorld Headhunter
Image & Form games are an interesting indie developer because their franchise,SteamWorld, changes genres between sequels. It all began with a tower defense game followedby a Metroidvania, a strategy RPG, and a turn-based RPG. In 2021, they announced their next game in the series with a short teaser calledSteamWorld Headhunter.
It’s going to be a shooter, another new genre for them to tackle. The actual gameplay has never been shown and since then the company has focused on showcasingSteamWorld Buildwhich is supposed to come out in 2023.

1UFO 50
UFO 50was announced the same year asMetroid Prime 4in 2017, but it at least had a gameplay trailer. The concept is novel and caters to a very niche crowd among NES fans. There were shovelware games released for the NES that contained anywhere from a dozen to a hundred games.
They were a ripoff for many reasons andUFO 50is presumably trying to channel that energy but with an actually good set of mini-games. Mossmouth is developing it and they have a good track record thanks to thetwoSpelunkygames.
