Summary

Families inThe Simsform the core of the series' lore, and some families have endured since the first game to become icons. The Goths, Landgraabs, and Pleasants are some of the most iconic families inThe Sims, with much of the game’s marketing and lore intrigue surrounding them. However, asProject RenemovesThe Simsin a new direction while still providing support forThe Sims 4, it should perhaps put a hold on giving these iconic families a place inProject Reneto give it its own identity.

Somefamilies inThe Sims, while once staples in the series, have been left by the wayside in recent years. These families have been the victims of inconsistent lore, poor reception from fans, or have been relegated to the Gallery. These families should be left inThe Sims 4and efforts should be made to create new iconic families with better lore inProject Rene.

The Pancakes

ThePancakes are considered the replacement of the Newbies, who appeared in previous games inThe Simsseries as a tutorial family. The Pancakes are Bob and Eliza Pancakes, a married couple who have become a bit of a meme inThe Simscommunity as their marriage isn’t the happiest. Despite their catchy name and notoriety in the player community, the Pancakes haven’t reached the same iconic levels as the family they replaced, and a new tutorial family forProject Renemay be needed to wipe the slate clean.

The Pleasants

Another iconic family from games ofThe Simspast are the Pleasants, who have appeared in every game inThe Simssince the first. The Pleasants are a stereotypical American household that projects the image of a perfect family. The Pleasant family have since taken a backseat, and have only been available to download fromThe Sims 3Store andThe Sims 4Gallery, though Angela and Lilith Pleasant are also available inThe Sims 4: Discover University. Because of their diminishing role, it’s probably more appropriate forProject Reneto give their role some rest.

Iconic Families In The Sims That Overshadow All Else

The Goths

The Goths have been icons ofThe Simssince the very first game in the series. Bella and Mortimer Goth have appeared in every game inThe Simsso far, with the mystery of Bella Goth’s disappearance spanning two worlds inThe Sims 2. The Goths and their legacy cast a long shadow, and in many ways make it difficult for other, new families, to step out of that shadow to reach the same level of fame.Project Renehas the chance to create new families as iconic as the Goths, all whileThe Sims 4continues their story.

The Calientes

The Caliente sisters achieved fame when their fates became intertwined with that of the Goths inThe Sims 2. Bella Goth’s disappearance was likely by the design ofthe Caliente sisters, who sought to remove Bella out of the way for various nefarious reasons. Don Lothario,The Sims' resident smooth talker, is often seen with the family, and inThe Sims 4appears with the Caliente household, along with a redacted mother, Katrina Caliente. Because of the inconsistent lore, appearance overhauls, and changing relationships, perhaps it’s best ifProject Reneleft the Calientes inThe Sims 4.

The Landgraabs

TheLandgraabs are one of the most prominent families inThe Sims. They traditionally own everything and many of the bills Sims pay go straight to this family. The Landgraabs are incredibly wealthy thanks to their inheritance, and they’re the family Simmers love to hate. IfProject Renemoves in a different direction from previous games, the best thing it can do to establish a new identity is move away from the empire the Landgraabs have created.
