The Post-credit Easter Egg

MostMarvel fans know the necessity of waitinguntil the end of the credits to claim the Easter Egg of extra information, but not all anime fans have cottoned on. Consequently, some viewers may have missed the sneak-peak into the future as a new monster is introduced, with blood on their hands and Trese’s name on their lips.

Upon analysis, cryptozoology fans predict that the vampiric creature is in actual fact ajiangshi, bringing some Chinese legends into the mix. Whether this means that Alexandra will expand her ventures to an international level, or if this creature is an attempt to bring some familiar East-Asian influence into the anime, is yet to be confirmed.

The Filipino inspired komiks of Trese

Drawing Inspiration from the Komiks

With the creation of theTreseanime series, Netflix chose from the various short stories presented within the first three komiks:Murder at Balete Drive, Unreported Murders, andMass Murders. With regard to moving forward, they may decide to take inspiration from the remaining short stories in the early komiks, or they could reach further into the remaining four editions ofthe horror-themed Manga.

Possibly one of the easiest narratives to flesh out in seas appears inTrese Vol 2: Unreported Murders, where Alexandra visits a small town where the residents seem suspiciously satisfied with all aspects of life. To maintain their lives of luxury, the community of Livewell Village must sacrifice an innocent to the Lightning Elemental once a year. ‘Team Trese’ intervenes to help the police force put an end to these suspicious deaths, returning the Village to its original state of mediocrity.

Alternatively, Netflix could continue along with the narrative of the war between good vs. evil and adapt the “Private Collection"storyline from Vol 4:Last Seen After Midnightinto the anime. In this canon, amanananggalis murdered, and their wingless body is publicly displayed for all to see. This incites angst among the supernatural residents of Manila as they turn on one another in an attempt to find the culprit. This narrative would fit in snugly with the final episode of season 1, which saw many monsters questioning their alliances and playing jump-rope with their loyalties.

New Characters Expected

With the death of Captain Guerrero looming over Manila, most fans suspect that his nephew, Marco, will step up as the new head hunk of the police force. The close age gap between Alexandra and Marco, combined with his dashing features, suggests a potentialromantic twist in the story. Hopefully, Marco is just as accepting of Alexandra’s wisdom and power as his uncle was, so that she can continue to assist the police in solving supernatural crimes.

More lead male characters are expected to be introduced since the release of the latestTresekomik,Bloodlinesin December 2020. This volume acts almost like a prequel, giving fans an in-depth look into Alexandra’s character and past, with specific attention paid to her brothers. Brian Balondo, Marvin del Mundo, David Hontiveros, Mark Gatela, JB Tapia, and Brandie Tan joined the original creators, Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo in formulating theBloodlinesstories, which fans hope to see popping up in the anime’s canon. Many rumors are making the rounds proposing that one of Alexandra’s four brothers will be joining her on the screen, and viewers are also eager to see if there will be more adventures within the Balete Tree, which was a key element to Alexandra’s baptism.

Trese in the comics and the series

Differences between the Anime and Komiks

Fans cannot count on the Netflix adaptation to follow the komik canon directly, as they have alreadydeviated from the original manga storylinein a variety of ways. Most notably, is the treachery of Nuno in episode 6, as the informant sides with Sancho Santamaria during the final showdown. Although he is a devious duwende, Nuno was always faithful to Trese in the komiks - and his deception in the anime affects the narrative significantly.

Another compelling change concerns the birth of Alexandra’s twin. In Netflix’sTrese, the infant girl was murdered by their father, Anton, in an attempt to terminate the prophecy of the 6th child. However, the original story dictates that the twin was stillborn, and the Sinag’s soul was transformed into a Kris with the assistance of Anton’s mystic companions. These crucial details will force the anime series to take a different path with its narrative in episodes to come, as they greatlyaffect the overall backstory ofTrese.

Netflix has yet to announce the renewal or release date ofTrese Season 2.
