There’s an ongoing crisis going on within theWorld of Warcraftcommunity, stemming from a number of ongoing serious issues. Perhaps the least serious, and yet quite virally impactful, is the decision of Twitch streamer Asmongold to stop playingWorld of Warcraftand instead playFinal Fantasy 14. Now Asmongold, as he is known to do, is stirring up theWorld of Warcraftcommunity again. In a recent Twitch stream, Asmongold provided his opinion onWorld of Warcraft’s community, going so far as calling it “trash.”

In a clip being shared online, Asmongold addresses the topic of whetherFinal Fantasy 14’s community is better thanWorld of Warcraft’s. It’s one of those comparisons that online communities are currently having more of, given the controversies surrounding Blizzard and theincreased popularity ofFinal Fantasy 14. Asmongold says that he agrees with the sentiment thatFinal Fantasy 14’s community is better in terms of being supportive and so on.

But Asmongold goes well beyond just agreeing with the statement, though it’s perhaps hyperbolic. He punctuates the point by saying, “That is completely true. There has never been a truer true that has ever been trued.” Suffice to say, he isn’t just agreeing thatFinal Fantasy 14’s communityis strong andWorld of Warcraft’s community less so, but that there’s a vast divide between the two games' communities that’s worth calling attention to.

Asmongold doesn’t stop in confirming that he believesFinal Fantasy 14’s community is better, however. He carries past that though, wanting to touch on why he believesFinal Fantasy 14’s community is so good, but rather whyWorld of Warcraft’s is bad. In a self-deprecating way, Asmongold says that he believes theWorld of Warcraftcommunity is bad and that he knows this because he “was in it.”

It’s no secret that Asmongold has partaken inWorld of Warcraft’s often toxic community. Being controversial at times is a part of what makes many Twitch streamers so popular. Part of it also comes from Asmongold playingWorld of Warcraftfor so long, despite clearly not enjoying himself at times. But the clear catalyst for his current stance is playingFinal Fantasy 14and having such an enjoyable time.

It’s not a great moment forWorld of Warcraftto be compared to any game, at the moment. Sentiment towardsBlizzardas it struggles with allegations of gender discrimination is at an all-time low. Players are unhappy with the game’s most recent patch. AndFinal Fantasy 14is at a very good place in comparison. Still, Asmongold is likely only saying what many otherWorld of Warcraftplayers are thinking.
