Ubisoft has been working onBeyond Good and Evil 2since 2008 and its ambiguous development schedule has led to an erratic marketing effort. While the game did not make an appearance at Ubisoft Forward this year, Ubisoft Belgium’s official Twitter account just shared what appears to be a screenshot fromBeyond Good and Evil 2.
The image focuses on the Belgian city of Ghent, a port city located in northwest Belgium where two rivers converge. Ghent is known for its stunning medieval architecture, including a 12th-century castle, but this image adds something even more striking: a strange spaceship. Posted in honor of World UFO Day, the image serves as proof that Ubisoft hasn’t forgottenBeyond Good and Evil 2despite thegame being stuck withDead Island 2in development limbo.

Unfortunately, while this image could help renew the hopes ofBeyond Good and Evilfans, it doesn’t seem to have much of a splash.Beyond Good and Evil 2’s lack of appearance at E3 2021may have seriously hurt its publicity–as of writing, the image has only received about 44 likes, and its few comments are primarily dedicated to wondering where the game is. Fans may be waiting for more information before they allow themselves to get excited for this title again.
With its long period of silence and continued fan investment,Beyond Good and Evil 2could be considered Ubisoft’sElden Ring. However,Elden Ringbroke its silence with a gorgeous trailer and a presentation on what fans can expect during Summer Game Fest, whileBeyond Good and Evil 2has remained dormant save for a single screenshot. If Ubisoft wants to build anticipation for this upcoming game the way that FromSoftware did withElden Ring, the developers may have to reveal more of the finished product. AsBeyond Good and Evil 2has completely changed its approach, its gameplay, and its status as a sequel since it was first announced over 10 years ago, the developers may not have anything comparable to theElden Ringgameplay trailer to show off.
IfBeyond Good and Evil 2is further away than fans hope, then fans may have to content themselves with this enigmatic screen capture for a while. It’s unlikely that Ubisoft will give up on this title, especially when it’s just renewed theBeyond Good and Eviltrademark, butBeyond Good and Evil 2has already spent over a decade in development. There’s a real possibility that the game could stay in development limbo for several more years.
Beyond Good and Evil 2is currently in development.
